My son zach is 17 months old and it is very apparent he has speech

delays when i have him w/ a kid around his age or younger. He was

assessed at 0-3 months of age for expressive language. MY concern is

he learned some words a few months ago but then lost them over the

course of time or they became to sound like the only sounds he makes

anga and inga and eh all nasal tones. The therapists can hear new

sounds and he does try to say fish ih and he barks ar he can say hi

really well but thats the only word. He used to say mama and now

doesnt and its been months he hasnt said it correctly.... Also dada

he said around october and i only heard him say it one other time

since. Now its back to anga. He does have a disease that can cause

brain damage but he doesnt show signs of brain damage atleast to me

and the therapists no mental retardation at all... Unless the only

thing i can think of is that the disease isnt allowing him to speak.

Is anyone in this boat? he does have hypotonnia all over and in the

face which doesnt help him to speak and he has a slightly elevated

palate. Also zach didnt laugh til 8 months old anyone elses child

like that? Please give me some insight. I just noticed over hte last

month his language skills are deminishing even though he is making

more sounds. We do use signlanguage w/ him but having others around

him use it thats another story. I am the only one that worries about

him not being able to speak and dh does a little too but he says

he'll worry when the dr.s tell us that he can't.

If anyone can help i'ld appreciate it i am gonna mention this to his

metabolic specialist and his ped when we go to their appointments

this month.
