Some Aspies, like Raven and myself, don't judge people on fancy titles but on accomplishments (results). And for as long as you have known me I have said pretty much the same thing, right? But I'm not going to throw that as an insult in someone's face when they just *accomplished* getting a degree - SO that they can run an academy for Aspies. That IS trying to accomplish something, and that's something I personally admire. I'm not *impressed* by titles, just genuinely happy for e. > I also saw the addition of " Dr " to le's name as here we have a person that should be judged by her positions and titles instead of her accomplishments. It was a sort of joke on Rainbow's part, just to let us know that e's dissertation went well. He has already explained that. Did y'all not read that explanation? If not, please review the whole thread. Inger

So am I, but didn't Raven also explain this in the same post? However, I could agree with you that Aspies sometimes are not so supportive of others achieving success. That is not very nice, but I don't know if this is the case here. I doubt it. > > I also saw the addition of " Dr " to le's name as here we have > a person that should be judged by her positions and titles instead > of her accomplishments. > > It was a sort of joke on Rainbow's part, just to let us know that e's > dissertation went well. No, I'm afraid I only saw the " Dr " in the post, and knowing about le I found it kind of strange. It would be better to explain what happened to le, and say she got an doctorate degree, and not use it like that with her name. I'd probably be insulted if somebody used my MSc title to tell people that I'm good at computers or something. It would imply that such a title would be necesary to achieve such a thing and the education was why I can do it. I only see such titles as something I can use in job interviews or in debates with NTs on various topics. Leif

But after the mistake has been explained, can't one at least expect you guys to not continue to disbelieve Rainbow's intentions? >> > I also saw the addition of " Dr " to le's name as here we have >> a person that should be judged by her positions and titles instead >> of her accomplishments. >> >> It was a sort of joke on Rainbow's part, just to let us know that >> e's >> dissertation went well. I'll grant that it was perhaps a bit too cryptic for a bunch of Aspies who have not been privy to what's been going on with e. He COULD have spelled it out more clearly. But then Rainbow wouldn't be Rainbow; playing with words is his forte. :-) > I'd probably be insulted if somebody used my > MSc title to tell people that I'm good at computers or something. I doubt she would ever have mentioned it here herself. I hope we haven't embarrassed her to bits by discussing it now. Inger

I made a comment based on Rainbow's comment. How I felt about it did not enter the picture. Later on I stated that I was happy that e had accomplished her goal; I just am not, and never will be, impressed with titles. You, inger, are the one who insists that a statement of fact with no emotion involved is rudeness when it is not. I did not see you take Rainbow to task on the many rude comments he made to and about me. I have not asked anyone to take Rainbow to task on his rude comments to and about me. However, my comments regarding e ' doctorate were not in the least bit rude. I have explained myself more than once on this subject and yet you will not let it go which is, in itself, rude. It's wonderful that e has set for herself a goal which she has accomplished. I just don't see the need to make a big deal out of " that's DOCTOR e to you. " What one accomplishes in life -- with or without a doctorate -- is more important than insisting on a title as Rainbow insisted. Raven: > That would be perception and projection on your part, Inger. OK, sorry if I misinterpreted. But you sure didn't *sound* overly happy for e? You just kept reiterating not being impressed by titles. If I had just gotten a degree, I sure would have felt such a statement like a slap in the face. I only hope she is too busy to read the forums right now. > I made a comment based on Rainbow's comment. How I felt about it did not > enter the picture. Why do you feel it necessary to repeat that over and over and over? No one ASKED you to be impressed. In his conversation with ME, Rainbow was just bringing the happy news, that's all, not asking you or anyone else to kiss the ground e walks on because she got a degree. > You, inger, are the one who insists that a statement of fact with no > emotion involved is rudeness when it is not. I am not saying there was emotion in it. I am saying I thought it was a rude remark. > I did not see you take Rainbow to task on the many rude comments he made to and about me. I have not asked anyone to take Rainbow to task on his rude comments to and about me. Raven, I'm sorry, but someone needs to inform you that you keep doing this over and over. First you're rude and snotty to people without realizing it - or thinking you are justified in being so because you misinterpret something someone wrote and jump to conclusions. Then, when they react to your misinterpretation with some understandable hostility, YOU feel slighted, even though it was you who started it. A better approach might be to ASK for clarification before jumping to conclusions? Just a tip. Back to the issue at hand, Rainbow said you showed signs of ignorance and bullying, correct? Going over your exchange again now I see that even AFTER he explained himself, you kept insisting at least 3 more times your erroneous assumption that he was " impressed with titles " and I can't that see as anything but bullying - or at least badgering - and yes, ignorance. > However, my comments regarding e ' doctorate were not in the > least bit rude. If you rephrase that to say that you didn't INTEND for your comments to be rude, I'll believe it. How it came across is another matter altogether. *I* thought it sounded rude and I know I am not the only one who thought so. However, I can see now that it was a genuine misinterpretation due to Rainbow's phrasing and possibly not intended to sound as badly as it came across. > I have explained myself more than once on this subject and yet you will > not let it go which is, in itself, rude. Yes, very possibly so. Beth can put me on moderation if she thinks I'm out of line. I had already had my say on the subject, but Tom, Leif and now you keep bringing it up again and I thought it would be rude not to reply. :-) > It's wonderful that e has set for herself a goal which she has accomplished. I just don't see the need to make a big deal out of " that's DOCTOR e to you. " So you mean you still don't get it even though both Rainbow and I have tried to explain it so many times? OK, let me try again: it was a JOKE, just a friendly and sublte way of just letting those of us who care and have been wondering, know that she made it. Nothing more, nothing less. > What one accomplishes in life -- with or without a doctorate -- is more > important than insisting on a title as Rainbow insisted. But no one has disputed that, it's just that it is not an issue here, since he was NOT insisting for REAL - he was MOCK " insisting " as a typical friendly Rainbow joke/information attempt. See?
