Guest guest
Hi All, I've successfully brewed my first batch if kombucha and my 2 yr old is crazy for it. I've always shared our store bought KT with him but now that we have much more of it around I'm worried he might drink too much. I searched this group for info and didn't find anything and sources online gave mixed messages. This morning I watered his down just incase. Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences you can share! Sharra
Guest guest
My studies show that KT is wonderful for children, lots of probiotics, anti-oxidants and nutriceuticals to detoxify their liver (see POTTENGER'S PROPHECY!) and strengthen the body. For a 2 year old though, I'd keep the caffeine low our out of it completely, it's not necessary plus it's obviously an addictive drug. Eventually too much caffeine can take a toll on the adrenals. Use either green or white tea, or, if you want just use decaffeinated tea. Some use herbal teas but technically it's no longer KT, maybe it's better, I don't know, I just stick with some variation of the original CAMELLIA SINENSIS plants, and ALWAYS ORGANIC (same with any tea or coffee!). As much as I like the fizz, I don't think it's as good for toddlers either. I assume there is some carbonic acid with the bubbles which could affect the teeth. At least there is no added phosphoric acid, one of the WORST things in soda pop. For pre-teens and older, I think adding the fizz helps keep them off soda pop! They are also less affected by mild caffeine. Be sure to add lots of colorful berries and high antioxidant fruits to your KT for Jr. Kids often like the continuous-brew pots, it also tends to be weaker tea. Everything that a child learns to " like " or " dislike " is SET to the hard drive by about 2-3 years of age. As soon as a child starts crawling they lose their ability to quickly accept new flavors or foods. See FEEDING BABY GREEN (Dr. Alan Greene, holistic pediatrician). Hope that helps! Sounds like you will have one healthy child! Will Winter (raised on KT early in my youth!)
Guest guest
Will, thanks so much for all that fantastic info! So very helpful and I'll look up that book too. I grew up on an extreme SAD so it's been amazing to watch my little guy develop a love for these nourishing foods and even turn away things like white flour birthday cake.
