Hi,

Wondering if anyone on this list has made watermelon chips? They are dehydrated

slices but it seems like you have to do something before dehydrating them to

keep them from crumbling into little bits of nothing.

They were super good and I should have asked how to make them but didn't and now

wish I had. Plan on making watermelon pickles tonight and would like to try

making some chips at the same time.

They are SO EASY to make that you just might WEEP for joy!

A lot of dehydrating guides make claims that watermelon " can't " be

dehydrated or worse, they make no mention of them at all...my take is that

none of those writers ever gave it a whirl!

Here's how to make them, but you can't really call them Watermelon Chips

(because of the sugar content), but more like, Watermelon Chews:

Cut into desired shape with thickness starting at least by 1/2 " or more.

Place on tray

Dry at 115 degrees (to keep enzyme integrity)

Drying time varies from dehydrator to dehydrator, so plan for approx. 24

hours.

Watch out though...if you start with a winner of a sweet watermelon, the

dried chews are going to turn into CANDY that everyone will fight over.

Dehydrated watermelon is wonderful!!! A friend of mine doesn't like fruits or

vegetables, but she went nuts over the dehydrated watermelon. It's truly like

eating candy. Pretty funny, her husband starts most meals with a salad.

If you haven't tried dehyrated watermelon, it's truly a yummy treat...

Canned watermelon pickles are also good (made from watermelon rind). I wrinkled

up my nose when I heard about these, but they are really good, made with oils of

cinnamon & clove, so really intense flavor.
