I am not sure about started kits. Best way is to get a SCOBY and some KT

from someone who makes it and start that way. If you are in the metro area

I'd be happy to share.

As for containers - depends on how much you want to make at a time. Target

(and I am sure other stores) sell Anchor Hawking one gallon glass jars.

Those work fairly well although I find them frustrating to pour out of and

used to lose some of my KT at bottling. I have since moved to a 2.5 gal

crock and a 1 gallon glass sun tea jar. Both of which have spouts. Some

Walmarts sell the crocks with a small stand for about 30 bucks. You can

check online which do and do not have it in store. The Seward co-op has the

crocks and stands as well, but sell the crocks alone for 30 bucks and

another cannot recall how much if you want the stand. There are online

places to get them as well. Sun tea jars will probably be hard to find

right now since summer is over.

Smaller containers work as well. Menards, ACE, etc sell 1/2 gallon canning

jars. If you are lucky sometimes you can pick up old 1/2 and 1 gallon

pickle jars. I have a 1/2 gallon one I use for a SCOBY hotel.

My first kombucha jar was the kind that you can get at most any bar. Just ask

them to save one of their large glass olive jars (73oz, I think) that they would

have to dispose of anyway (hopefully recycle).

Hi there..

I found some nice Anchor Hocking jars(with a lid) at Walmart for a reasonable

price & also if you participate in freecycle you might could ask if anyone has

any large pickle jars, I got a nice sized one from there! you can also go to

craigslist.org & see if anyone has a scoby & starter! Good Luck~
