Guest guest
Neupogen does not lose any potency but 2 shots a week is allot . But then again I don't have any experience with patients on hemdialysis and on treatment . The hemodialysis could be the reason your viral load dropped but came back up . And there are many side effects from the neupogen here is a link to the pharmaceutical company that manufactures it they will have a complete list of side effects and other information about it . http://www.amgen.com/patients/products_epogen.html Undergoing treatment - problem with WBC count and platelets Hi all,I'm new to this list.I have been on dialysis for the last 9 years (with one failed kidney transplant). I am currently undergoing Daily Home Hemodialysis for 8 hours each night 5 nights a week. Was recently (March 2006) diagnosed with Hepatitis C Genotype 3 and viral load 325,238.I started Pegintron (Pegylated Interferon Alpha 2b - manufactured by Pschering Plough) in the beginning of October. When I checked the viral load at that time (before starting the treatment) it was about 42,200. I wonder how the load fell without any treatment. My WBC count keeps falling (lowest was 1140) and then rises if I take a shot of Neupogen 300 micrograms (G-CSF). My platelets also keep fluctuating between 55,000 and 80,000. After about 4 doses of Peg-Interferon, my viral load was at 97,400. The load actually increased after starting treatment!I have a few questions: 1. What does the viral load increase signify?2. Is it safe to take Neupogen (300 micrograms each) about twice a week? Are there any side effects?3. Does the efficacy of Neupogen fall after taking a few doses? Any other advice/comments would be welcome! Thanks so much.-- ThanksKamal
Guest guest
Thanks for your response! What is the usual dose of Neupogen, then? Also, the viral load increasing - could it mean the interferon is not acting. Another thing I wanted to mention was that I am not taking Ribavirin. The doctors say Ribavirin is not always given to patients on Hemodialysis since it causes a further reduction in blood counts. Guest guest
Kamal, I also take neupogen, 3 shots a week 300 mg. My last lab showed a significant improvement in my WBC. My dr. said I didn't have to take the neupogen this week, but I still have some if it drops again. I really didn't get any sides from it, it just stings when you inject it. Good luck. Guest guest
Kerri, you do 3 shots a week? I only do it once a week, how different. My Dr left me to believe that was all that could be given. Ally On 12/13/06, Kerri Landress <kerrilandress@...> wrote: Kamal, I also take neupogen, 3 shots a week 300 mg. Guest guest
Yep. I did 3 shots a week for two weeks. I'm not doing anymore unless my WBC drops again. (They went back to normal) But my Dr. ordered a 28 day supply so I would have it if it drops again. <4thMoon@...> wrote: Kerri, you do 3 shots a week? I only do it once a week, how different.
