Oats are gluten free, however, they are almost always processed in

places that also process wheat, and therefore there are often warnings

on oats that they may contain traces of gluten - even organic oats.

It's true that oats are very often contaminated in the US. But there are

places to get certified GF (organic) oats. Here is a good source:

http://www.glutenfreeoats.com/ Bobs Red Mill has some too. The problem is

that they are always crazy expensive! (which I think is why the original

poster was looking for a more cost effective source)
