Guest guest
If you support stem cell research, my local Republican congressman, who opposes it, has for some reason put a poll on his web site and the pro's are stomping the anti's. Maybe you'd like to chime in. The left side of the web page has the poll question. http://jeffmiller. house.gov/ ronanne <kanga2@...> wrote: RE: Just a heads up on moderated status. Guest guest
You do not have to kill another to do stem cell research. They are using stem cells from belly fat in some cases (Oh, PLEASE, can I donate?) And another branch of stem cell research uses blood drawn form the umbilical cord----AFTER birth. This research, especially the stem cells that have been drawn from umbilical cords has been used to grow new liver sections, and in time might grow new livers in complete for those of us that might need them. With no disrespect to you, or to your opinion, I feel this is a good place for this discussion. Nikki Sorry but I am not a supporter of stem cell research. Guest guest
Tim, I agree with you on this one. Stem cell research should not be a moral question, but a medical one. If someone had a possible stem cell cure for HCV and endstage liver disease, Id be right there trying to save my life, which after all is what Doctors are supposed to do. Guest guest
Many people have been saved with cord blood stem cells. It is wonderful what it has done for folks, and yes I have read about the belly fat and would be glad to donate too, Nikki!! I have lots of belly fat. Guest guest
I, for another one appreciate Tim bringing it up. I know it can be a touchy subject for many, and I also agree with Nikki and keep an open mind.. Many lives are going to be saved because of it. I do believe they just need to be monitored to make sure they continue to do their research in a responsible manner.. Sheena Nikki Cowan <nikkicowan@...> wrote: Tim, a lot of people have a knee-jerk reaction to stem cell research because of the polarized media coverage. Since I have a deep respect for freedom and the right of each person to have their individual opinion I simply listen to others and point out current research. I think the article came through this list, I know it did on others how they are within 5 years of being able to use blood drawn from the umbilical cord to repair our livers, and in time to create complete replacements. Amazing what science has done! And, I personally do not have a problem with embroyotic stem cell research when it uses embryos created for in-vitro fertilization that are in excess and are going to be placed in the waste receptacle, but that is my personal opinion and I recognize that others may differ. There is alot of reseach being done that has nothing to do with abortion. Please keep an open mind to this fact with regards to other members. Guest guest
Adding my opinion to this.....I am a huge fan of this type of research, but my understanding of it is that it is NOT perfected yet and the growth of the cells does not always follow a desired path. If the kinks can be ironed out, what a boon to the medical world and to us, HepC victims, in particular.
