Guest guest
An attempt at humor ... dedicated to the people who want to Cure us Now ... DESTROY LEFT-HANDEDNESS NOW! - a public service announcement by D.L.H.N. International - The Voice Of Left-Handedness around the world /1/ Left-Handedness: The Silent, Yucky, Disgusting, Scary, Yucky, Evil Epidemic of Evil Scary Yuckiness. About 1 in 10 of children born since 1960 has a syndrome known as " left-handedness. " These " mirror people " function exactly opposite to normal humans. The presence of left-handers will therefore destroy civilization and the human race unless we cure them now and prevent the future birth of all left-handed individuals. D.L.H.N. (Destroy Left-Handedness Now), the voice of left-handedness around the world, has committed itself to the public health cause of eliminating left-handedness in our lifetime. We can do it. You can help. /2/ What Left-Handedness Does, and Why You Should Feel Concerned /a/ Left-handedness encloses an otherwise normal boy or girl in a shell of left-handed " mirror behaviors. " These behaviors, and the " sinister skills " abilities that make them possible, prevent the patient from living life normally as the normal, right-handed child who exists locked within the left-handed shell that we perceive. The same brain structure that causes left-handedness also typically prevents the person who has left-handedness from accurately and effectively communicating the simple fact that he or she wants and needs to stop being left-handed. The communications attempted by a person with left-handedness come out distorted and reversed, reflecting the mental distortions and reversals of left-handedness. For instance, a child with left-handedness who cries when you hit his or her left hand may actually mean to express joy rather than pain at the fact that you are providing the sensory input which will help him or her become normal. /b/ Left-handedness is harmful to families because it makes intelligent, aware parents feel bad about the " mirror child " that they have produced instead of a real child. Left-handedness also creates tragic difficulties for parents, teachers, and even sports coaches who have to spend time modifying instructional methods anc equipment in order to enable a person with left-handedness to succeed in all activities of daily living. The existence of left-handers therefore takes time and other precious resources away from rearing and teaching our real, normal, right-handed children. /3/ What You Can Do To Help /a/ Buy and wear our official D.L.H.N. buttons - also give some to your friends and relatives who have left-handedness in their families. Pin one on a child with left-handedness, and you'll really make the kid's day! Each button shows a left hand, a red slash across it (the international " Forbidden " symbol), and the caption " D.L.H.N - Destroy Left-Handedness Now. " The original template of this button was hand-made specially for us, using the right hand only, by " Freddy, " the D.L.H.N. International Poster Child. Doctors diagnosed five-year-old Freddy as incurably left-handed. Fortunately, his concerned parents called D.L.H.N. immediately. Today, after 10 years of special D.H.L.N training, he can no longer use his left hand for anything whatsoever. His right hand still does not perform very well, but at least Freddy is no longer a person with left-handedness. Every day, Freddy's mom and dad praise the Lord for the D.H.L.N.-funded Applied Handedness Analyst who finally made it clear to little Freddy that if he didn't stop using his left hand the Analyst would have to start providing sensory stimulation with a much, much bigger cattle prod. So little Freddy quickly became right-handed for good, and he and his family have all joyously committed to lifelong training on improving his new right-handed skills. We think that, in ten more years, Freddy will be completely functional with his right hand. Every day, Freddy and his family wear their D.L.H.N. buttons with pride. You can, too. /b/ Refuse to listen to anyone who says that left-handedness is, or might be, somehow " okay. " They are not left-handed, so how can they possibly know how it feels to have to live with the curse of left-handedness? If someone says that he or she is left-handed and has nevertheless had a fulfilling life, or says that other lefties who have had fulfilling lives, this only proves that the person is not really left-handed or - at best - is only mildly left-handed. Someone who had truly experienced the pain of left-handedness would not be able to say such things. /c/ Give lots of money to our Applied Handedness Analysis therapist-training foundation, and also to our Research Division which is raising money to find an _in_utero_ test for detecting left-handedness pre-natally. Parents can then have the choice of preventing the birth of these strange and disquieting " mirror people. " So give now! Eliminate left-handedness! It's the RIGHT thing to do! Guest guest
-i LOVE this! Great satire.Sadly, however, there used to be attempts to " cure " left-handed kids.my Mom was left-handed but the teachers made her write with her right hand. She luckily became ambidextrous and could write backwards like DaVinci.my best friend Patty was not so lucky. Her kindergarten teacher HELD HER LEFT ARM behind her back to train her.She simply could not use her right hand and was kept back a grade for this reason, until they realized that letting her write with the left hand was not so bad, really.By then she had developed a serious spelling problem, almost like dyslexia, even though she was actually a bright girl. Guest guest
Kate, Happy birthday in advance. Regarding your comment: My father spent some time in a Catholic school when he was younger and the nuns used to " convert " the lefties. He was rightie, so it didn't matter to him...until he married a leftie. Then he lectured my mom on switching hands. My mom of course would not change hands for the life of her. So my father let it go... Until his daughter was born leftie. For a while he figured my sister was " copying " mom, and he would switch pens and pencils from one hand to the other to try to get her to write right handed. Eventually, my mother was able to provide him with literature from a source he respected that said handedness was neurologically determined, and seldom if ever determined by choice. Regardless, my sister's handwriting is generally poor. I presonally attribute this to my father spending so many years messing up her mind by trying to get her to write right handed. I can print with either hand and draw pictures with both of them at the same time. But I notice that if I do this extensively, my right hand's handwriting suffers for a short while. Tom Administrator Also - as a handwriting instruction/remediation specialist (who turns 43 this Sunday), I have met and worked with a few adults *younger* than me who have survived successful or partly successful attempts to make them right-handed. Guest guest
Thanks. She is still writing with her left hand but has been hounded so much that she will not accept help from anyone now about improving her writing. I've decided to accept her handwriting as it is, and this has actually caused her to grow a tad closer to me. But if it does impair her work/career in a way that causes her to want to improve her handwriting, I will refer her to you. Tom Administrator If your sister ever wants handwriting help, let me know. I work more often with adults/teens than with children, and I've worked with a number of " successfully " or unsuccessfully switched left-handers. Yours for better letters, Kate Gladstone
Guest guest
