Guest guest
Hi Skippy! Carnell is CHERAB's Executive Director of Global Support and she can tell you what contacts for support she knows are available in your area of the UK. In the UK, you do have access to an EFA product that is being researched by Dr. andra called EyeQ which most of us with apraxic children have not tried yet. It's very high in EPA vs. DHA but it still has some GLA (so it is Omega 3/6 which we found as a group better than pure Omega 3). andra J. , MA, D.Phil. (Senior Research Fellow in Neuroscience, Imperial College School of Medicine, MRI Unit, Hammersmith Hospital, London; and University Lab. of Physiology, Oxford) is respected internationally for her work in EFAs and was a guest presenter at the First Apraxia Conference hosted by CHERAB. She is so down to earth and wonderful - like many of the other scientists that presented, and spent much time speaking to us-the parents. I really liked the way she answered questions-she reminded me of my friend . It's not uncommon by the way for children to have diarrhea the first few days of adding fish oil to their diet -after all, it is an oil! I only know of one child through Rhonda in Canada that had such severe diarrhea that the mom had to stop the supplementation. I even know a few kids who because of the diarrhea had " accidents " the first few days. One set of the parents, Steve (attorney) and Kate (nurse), who are friends of my husbands from years ago from Long Island NY who have an apraxic son, said it's like it just went right through him - and then the diarrhea just stopped a few days later and then he " just started talking and talking and talking " . Most parents don't stop the EFAs because they hear that the results happen so quick -in most cases a week to three -the diarrhea is mild- and they are curious. (most are quite happy with their decision!) Anecdotally, which is all we have right now - the ProEFA appears to be the best so far-but again we have not as a group tried the Eye Q. I believe the Eye Q is being researched for just dyslexia right now. Here is a quote about loose stools from the Eye Q site " ...although loose stools can very occasionally occur when some people first start taking the capsules. Reducing the dosage solves this problem, as well as taking the capsules after a meal. " http://www.equazen.com/qa_effects.htm Anyway, please let us know if you try the EyeQ. We'd all love to hear! =====
