they are not as common as you'd think,, the main sides include the nausea from lack of protein and fluids, headaches, body aches like you get with the flu, anemia which is directly caused from the tx which CAN be treated with procrit , neupogen and neumega... I have seen so many ppl who really low WBC's which are your infection fighters and I can't remember ever hearing of anyone getting a severe infection,, heck my WBC dropped to 1.0 which is 'critical' and I never got sick except at the beginning of my tx,,, after a few months, I never got sick or had any infections altho Im sure they do happen.. its so weird cuz your WBC's end up really low but with the INF, your immune system is boosted and that IS a helpful thing.. I think that these severe side effects are one of the reasons that your doc should be doing labs at LEAST once a month and should see you at least every two weeks in the beginning as the biggest drops in labs usually occur in the

beginning,, so they can watch for the decline.. they do continue to slowly drop throughout tx but if your doc is on top of things, he can make sure you have what you need to be able to finish tx.. this IS SERIOUS treatment, and you have to be watched closely... Your neutrophils need to be watched closely as they are the ones who fight the infection and as long as they dont drop below 750 , you should be ok as far as infection.. marvindamartian05 <marvindamartian05@...> wrote: Oh, Lord! LOL Most of these effects are common and not really an emergency . As long as the doctor does the weekly lab tests to make sure to monitor wbc/rbc counts . And allot of these conditions are not common , and most stuff is prevented by the use of medications for the side effects . A good doc will make sure treatment is as comfortable as possible /

I am terrified of the psychiatric side effects my sister is bi polar and I have seen what it has done to her life. If anything would make me decide not to treat it would be the fear of psychiatric side effects, But, the fatigue has me convinced to treat. My kids miss me and I can see it is effecting their lives in a negative way because I am sleeping all the time. I am also a single parent but I we share a house with my mom and she has been a rock picking up the slack. I don't know what would have happened to me without her.

I had my biopsy today it was less scary than I thought it would be and a little less uncomfortable I do feel like a mule kicked me in the side but it is not as bad as I expected. Now I am waiting for the results of all of my tests.

Robbie, I have bipolar disorder and went through treatment twice with flying colors as far as my mental stability. In fact there are several members here with bipolar disorder that have went through treatment. You just have to work closely with your doctor, make sure that you are on good anti-depressants. My doctor switched me from wellbutrin on treatment to Effexor XR 150 mg., and it worked so well that my Pysch doc kept me on Effexor XR after the treatment. Bipolar disorder is just another disease that one has to handle, sigh* but with the right kinds of meds, you can effectively treat both the Hep C and handle the side effects. You can ask any of the long time members here how I handled myself during treatment. I was pretty upbeat as far as my mental status. Let me say this, with my bipolar disorder, it took me a long time to get it under control, but I

never let it defeat me, I simply refused to let it determine how I would live my life. Yes, I have had the highs(mania) and I actually learned to use that to my advantage. Nothing gets your house clean like a good manic period. LOL. And the lows well that too I managed. When I felt like I was getting into the lows, I make sure that I am taking my meds properly, talk to people who understand and who do not allow me to stay in the low period. I do say I have very supportive friends and family, and for that I am luckier than most. But I have a very strong personality. And I refuse to let any illness get the better of me. I am the master and commander over my body. I say what can and can not go on. LOL And that makes me stronger because I am very aware of what is happening with me. I have to say that I am very impressive to my doctors because I don't present like a lot of folks with Hep C or Bipolar disorder. Because of my commitment to better

my life with my family, and friends. But of course you have to understand that this comes after many years of living with bipolar disorder, going through the various medications, trial and error process. Now I can say that I am as truly a normal person as I can be. And that is good enough for me. As Winston Churchill said (I think) the only thing to fear is fear itself. So you keep up the good work, and know that there are people here that can relate to you and help you through the hurdles. Most doctors will put their patients on an antidepressant a couple of weeks prior to treatment . The mental sides of treatment are usually just depression , but in some the depression can be really bad ( suicial tendencies etc) All 4 times I treated I wasn't on an antidepressant , I had allot of support at home from my husband and children and it really made a difference .

I got erratically emotional. Down, way down and then up. I'd start crying and couldn't stop. I'm NOT suicidal nor am I homicidal, else I'da done it before now. lol I've had clinical depression since childhood tho and take an antidepressant since they came out. But add brain fog to that and I was a mess. Messed up the check book a couple of times. Jerry tries, but he's 69 and thin skinned anyway. I'm 63, when the new tx finally get released, I'll be pushing 70, wonder what tx will do then.... I lost 20 lbs, but gained it gack after tx. Lost most of my hair..... Sharon,, even tho you didnt reach SVR,, just treating with INF reduces your chances of getting liver cancer by 40% over the next 5 years.. but I bet that because you did stop treatment for those 2 weeks, the virus got a new hold and thats why you relapsed... I am trying to keep up with all of this, but am still more than confused. I thought the GI would be able to answer my quesations, he didn't.. So, are you saying that there are MORE than 2 treatments/drug companies right now treating Hep C and more treatments still in clinical studies? Sheena elizabethnv1 <elizabethnv1@...> wrote: The last
