He could be 18 or 19, but he was supposedly 7 when obtained from the shelter in

1993. My understanding is that the upper limit for small dogs is 22.

Wait a minute! Didn't someone just say that there is no such thing as

Pomerania?

What does a Pomeranian dog look like?

It's pretty funny when you let kids name pets. My 2-year old niece

named the hamster, Dino, and when he died and was replaced by a rat

when she was 3, he was named Quattro Dino. Where did that come from?

Who knows. She's not Italian and he wasn't the fourth.

Probably a recent message with ( " Dude the Dog " in the " from: " header) to that

effect. I think there are parts of Pomerania still in German territory. I

think the most well-known Pomeranian city is Danzig, now called Gdansk.

My understanding is when the Soviet Union pushed the German army back, they

annexed the eastern portion of Poland. The Germans in the eastern regions of

Germany (and probably also East Prussia and the Melmel) were probably

repatriated into what is now Germany (East Germany) either by force or as

refugees during the Soviet advances.

This seems to follow the Stalin - von Ribbentrop (sp) pact, by which Poland was

partitioned and invaded. The areas of Pomerania which are now under Poland were

resettled by Polish people. After the Soviet breakup, some sort of agreement

was reached by which Germany would not demand return of the territory, but I'm

not sure of the details.

Perhaps someone can fill us in here.

Yes, my friend was born in Danzig/Gdansk. Her family had to leave their

beautiful big house in Poland and flee the commies in the middle of the

night and start over in Germany as refugees when she was a kid. :-(

I personally knew a black pomeranian dog: perhaps he stuck his paw in

the socket a bit too long, and burned out :P

Ditto.

Whenever they let the dog out:

YARK! YARK! YARK!

It got sprayed by a skunk...two separate times for running straight

out the door to it.

Now when they open the door, it pokes its nose out, sniffs and looks

around, and THEN bolts out the door and goes:

YARK! YARK! YARK!

I'm thinking of getting a cat. It would dwarf the dog and intimidate

it into silence just by looking mean like cats do from time to time.

I love dogs but I too, HATE the incessant barking. It comes down to

training them properly and also not leaving them alone outside (duh,

you have to train them, and duh, dogs are pack animals and can't

stand to be alone!) (The duh is for people who buy them either

because they think they're getting a cute little toy or a guard robot

with no feelings).

We have always had a dog door that leads to a fenced in yard so the dogs could go in and out as they liked. Most of the time they stayed inside and usually only went out to relieve themselves or if they heard a noise or something like that. We've also always had Basenjis and they don't bark anyway. They aren't supposed to that is, but they do sometimes learn from other dogs.

I had a phobia of dogs as a toddler because the ones in the neighborhood were loud and would knock the little kids down. They wouldn't bite or anything. I never much liked dogs who barked all the time. I attempted to train my golden retriever/lab/husky but, she continued. The lady underneath my apartment has a yap yap dog and without a shock collar it will bark continuously until it throws up or pees on their carpet. So, sometimes the shock is a necessity. The whole reason they had to purchase one is because I complained to the apartment manager. The dog was barking loudly and it was distressing. True, predatory dogs don't bark at every little sound or movement. Real dogs hunting in packs are vicious and determined hunters. It's basically the same thing with yap yap dogs except they have zero hunting intelligence. I used to own a black and brown miniature Daschund and she was nervous. She didn't bark. My brother was clearing out limestone rocks from the yard and I taught the dog how

to chase after sticks and rocks. My brother threw a rock about 15 feet in the air and it must have weighed about 40 pounds. Anyway, the dog chased it like usual except it landed on her head and crushed her. It killed her instantly. The sad part was just the fact that she was a very pretty dog with long ears and had a happy disposition. It's been twelve years since it happened and I may just get another one like her eventually. I just let the neighborhood cat in my house 2 days ago and it dug into one of my plant beds so, I had to let him out. My sister trained her cat to play fetch and retrieve. He even rolls around on his back on their front porch like a dog. mikecarrie01 <mikecarrie01@...> wrote: I love dogs but I too, HATE the incessant barking.
