Guest guest
UUUUURRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!! Oh brother. So is on day 4-ish of the flu, and DH has the bright idea of taking (and Kate) to a park and flying a kite. I am unable to talk him out of it (he's drunk with the idea of fresh air), so I go along to make sure does not run around too much. Now, normally, I am all over letting the kid tailor their activity level to whatever they feel like doing. But the FLU is something where I thought you were supposed to rest even if you didn't want to? So we're out there and I'm sort of seething... my thought is, if you asked 100 people if an immune-deficient 7 year old with the flu and diarrhea should be outside playing in 45 degree weather -- what would they say??? Right???!!! I mean, any energy her body is expending to keep warm, isn't that energy diverted from fighting the infection? Sigh. So last night she was HYPER, like nutty hyper. Fever seemed nearly gone. But she had low fever yesterday morning, so no school today (24 hour rule). This morning, she got up to pee at like 7am, then went back to bed. Stayed there. DH, leaving for work at 8am, was saying " should really go to school tomorrow. I mean, she's missed a week already. " I'm like, HUH? It's so annoying, how they can't keep this stuff straight. I said, " TWO DAYS. She missed Thursday and Friday. " See, he has this OBSESSION with missing too much school. EVERY SINGLE TIME misses a day, he waxes spasmodic about how he was allowed to miss school all the time as a kid and he doesn't want to do that. UM, excuse me, did you have a PID? Did you have 8 - 10 viruses and 8 bacterial infections per year? Pulease. misses when she HAS to miss. Until this flu, she had missed less than five days this year!!! Drives me NUTS. Consider that I hear that stupid speech EVERY time she misses school. Urgh. Besides which, she is learning almost nothing at school. She basically sits there and does busy work, as she is pretty advanced on most of the stuff. She is missing NOTHING, I'm telling you!!! I guess it drives me nuts because I feel like he's telling me how to do " my job " . I mean, the house and the kids are pretty much my job, right? But of course he naturally feels he has a right to have input on what happens in his house with his kids, but I just hate the bossiness thing. I really feel like especially with illness matters, he should defer to me. After all, I have mommy's instinct going for me and a track record of very accurate assessments of her illness. Plus I read up on every illness she gets, so I KNOW what the flu virus is doing to her insides right now, and what secondary infections she's being set up for. She has fluid behind both eardrums and the flu has set her up for pneumonia... so can you see why I'm not RUSHING to send her back to germ-infested school when she doesn't have the energy for it yet? Can you see why I don't think she should be playing outside when the temp is in the 40s??? She can't even concentrate long enough to do more than a couple pages of math in her jammies at the dining room table, how can I send her for a whole school day? He has NO qualms about her missing next Mon, Tues, Wed so we can go to a waterpark hotel during HIS vacation. But she can't miss three days for INFLUENZA???? I'm really annoyed right now!! Can you tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I'm sitting here waiting for the ear infections (seems likely at this point) and watching for pneumonia (seems UNlikely at this point), and her fever is higher today than it was yesterday (still only 99.6 though). And I have to deal with his input on whether or not she should go to school, like I can't figure that out??? Give me a break!!!! Sorry to rant and rave. I'm really aggravated at the spouse right now. Really aggravated. (mom to , age 7, dairy intolerant-related GERD -- currently has polysaccharide antibody def, previously had transient IgG, IgA, t-cell & other defs... and also to Kate, age 3!, more dairy intolerant but very healthy!)
