Mercury Poisoning

I am attacing my paper I just wrote for school with some of the evils

of Mercury... it was only a 3-page report.. but I found tons of info!

Poisoning the Minds of Children

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) was formed to protect

our nation from sickness and to promote public health, however, they

have ignored and even promoted the poisoning of millions of

children. A mercury-based preservative in vaccinations called

thimerosal is distributing an epidemic called autism. Once a rare

finding in our society, autism spectrum disorders are being diagnosed

more prevalently than ever. Unfortunately, the very institution

instilled to protect us has let us down and ignored the dangers of

this chemical. Our small children were injected with thimerosal

under the direction of the CDC and have become sicker each year.

Although the FDA and the CDC are well aware of the ill effects of the

mercury poisoning caused by this preservative, they have not made

enough of an effort to curb the use of thimerosal.

Thimerosal is composed of ethyl mercury and added to

vaccinations to prevent the possibility of bacterial contamination.

( 2). This preservative was introduced in the late 1930's

without much research on humans and no research on children. (

3) However, as more and more inoculations were introduced into the

field of medicine, more and more children were diagnosed autistic.

Could this only be coincidence? The numbers prove otherwise.

Unfortunately, the government we trust to protect us, was promoting

the use of this poison by enhancing the vaccination schedule.

Vaccination schedules are initiated and recommended by the CDC. In

the 1950's there were only 4 vaccines on the schedule initiated by

the CDC. Now there are 33 boosters before a child reaches the age of

two. This dramatically increased the amount of mercury injected into

the small bodies of developing children. And it also increased the

prevalence of autism. In the 1950's only 1 in 10,000 were diagnosed

with Autism. In 1981 (children receiving 135 micrograms of mercury) 1

in 2,600 were diagnosed with Autism. And in 2006, the CDC has

reported that 1 in 156 children will be diagnosed with Autism.

( 3) So where is the government while this plays out? The

government was simply watching as this disorder takes the minds of

our youth when they should have been protecting us.

Autism is a disorder characterized as a developmental

disability resulting from a disorder of the central nervous system.

Impaired social interaction, impaired communication, and restricted

and repetitive interests characterize people with autism disorders.

(Wikipedia) It is worth noting that the MSDS (Material Safety Data

Sheet) for thimersal explains, " thimersal contains mercury. It is

reported to cause poisoning fatalities, it is ototoxic, and to cause

hypersensitive reactions. It has been shown to have mutagenic

properties. " (MSDS) Interesting that MSDS are required by our own

government agency to protect those working with chemicals. But why

are they not researching that same chemical before injecting our

children with it?

" Autism was discovered in 1943, in American children, twelve years

after ethyl mercury (thimersal) was added to the pertussis vaccine.

(The disease was not seen in Europe until the 1950's, after thimersal

was added to vaccines used there.) " ( 3) Interesting to note

that autism wasn't even diagnosed until after the mercury-based

poison was introduced into the country. Amazingly, groups who do not

inoculate their children with the thimersal-laced vaccinations see

very few if any cases of autism. One such example is the Amish. There

are no documented Autistic children in Amish communities (the Amish

do not vaccinate their children). (Congressional Record, E1019) Where

are our government agencies that were enacted to protect us?

It isn't as if evidence wasn't presented to the FDA or the

CDC.

" Evidence of ethyl mercury's toxicity was available to Federal

regulators and the private sector almost from the products

inception. " (Congressional Record, E1024)

For almost 50 years, the government was aware of using the

potentially hazardous preservative and made no attempt to limit its

use until the 1990's. This effort coincided with another

investigation on mercury. The FDA had been investigating the danger

of methyl mercury in fish and had determined that it is harmful to an

unborn child's developing nervous system. (Congressional Record,

E1016) But that finding did not spark enough interest in the use of

ethyl mercury.

The National Institute for Health (NIH) also began educating people

on the dangers of mercury. The NIH found that " for fetuses, infants,

and children, the primary health effects of mercury are neurological

development. Even low levels of mercury exposure, such as a result

from a mother's consumption of methyl mercury in dietary sources can

adversely affect the brain and nervous system. " (Congressional

Record, E1016) Although the two groups (NIH and the FDA) had two

different agenda's, mercury along with thimersal was beginning to be

seen as a threat.

It took the FDA 18 years to limit the use of thimersal after

a finding that it was " not generally recognized as safe " .

(Congressional Record, E1016) Thankfully, Congress mandated a review

of the use of thimersal in vaccines in 1998. On July 9th, 1999, the

AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) and the U.S. Public Heath

Service issued a recommendation to remove thimersal from all

vaccinations. (Congressional Record, E1017) Today the FDA has ruled

out the use of thimersal in topical solutions and most childhood

inoculations. But it is not enough. There are still infants and

toddlers being poisoned by these tainted injections. Vaccines are

available without ethyl-mercury additives and should be mandated. But

the FDA and CDC have not restricted thimersal's use enough. It will

not be enough until it is banned.

The CDC has been responsible for the unnecessary poisoning of

millions of children by failing to listen to the concerns of parents,

physicians and even the manufacturer's of a dangerous chemical.

Instead of limiting the use and investigating thimersal, the CDC

chose to increase the amount given in a smaller period of time with

the vaccine schedule. Perseverance by parents and science will

prevail in this war, but at what cost? Our children and future

leaders have suffered enough.
