When my child finds a new item she wants, usually related to what someone has at

school ie:

a cellphone or lately pokemon stuffed animals, she will go online and search

then constantly

ask for the item. I f we say she needs to earn the item through chores or

homework she is

reluctant, or may agree to perform one chore then expect us to purchase the

item. Even

though we have not given in she will talk about the item in every spare moment

and call us

constantly to look at the item on the computer. It is exasperating to say the

least.

Yes, my son is the same way, when he gets on something he goes full speed

and can't stop. He has to have it right now! Zero patience. And when he

plays with something he gets totally stuck, right now he loves to play

pokemon and his friends are getting so sick of it.

My son also - unlike the other two, he easily becomes obsessed, until the next

obsession. This is one of the reasons the psychologist thought he had aspergers.

I think it's like some kids have a tendency to 'stick' - whether it's on a

movement (like a tic) a sound (sensory integration disorder) or a thought (ocd)

or activity, pursuit, idea...

My son has always stuck on all these things. Wish I knew what to do about it. At

this point, what we've done is discussed his 'tendency' to stick when he was

calm and open. We told him that next time it happens, we'd have a cue word to

let him know it was happening again - with the hopes that he'd eventually

recognize it in himself and take measures to stop. He's 16. It's not really

working.
