Guest guest
: We are in City, about a 40 min. drive north of Grand Rapids. We use DeVos Children's hospital for all of our needs. I was surprised that the GI or the Immuno did not suggest CSHS to us! I found out about it from a friend of mine who uses it for her 3 boys who were all preemies. Yes, we have 4 boys (family of 6). Have you checked with WIC about getting special milk? I was able to switch Cole's coupons to Lactose-Free milk this time around. I didn't even need a doctor's note! As long as you haven't spent any of your current coupons for the afflicted child, you should be able to swap them out for " special " milk coupons. I was SO happy to have saved $14 yesterday on his milk!!!! I'll call CSHS tommorow and see if we can qualify. If we have to do the probiotic thing the GI guy wants Cole to do, it is going to break the bank. LOL Thank you for your input!!! -Rogena (Mom to 4 boys, including Cole -Partial IgA Def, GERD, possible Celiac) > > Where at in MI are you? Guest guest
I do know that they will pay for acidophilis milk but it is also dairy-based, i think. I know we were getting the non-dairy form of it for a while untill they cracked down on it. I also had to have a note from WIC to say that it was ok to do the 2-halves versus one whole gallon since this milk only came in half gallons. Guest guest
What they will do is pay for soy FORMULA in a lactose intolerant or dairy allergic BABY--but once a kid hits 3 yrs old, they dont care anymore. Well, his allergy wasnt found until he was 3 yrs old, so they couldnt help us. They told me that there is such a small percentage of children who still have an intolerance or allergy after 3 yrs old that it isnt worth WICs money to waste it on that stuff. He only has one more yr on it and then we are off that too. It would have been nice if they had helped, but they wont, so I just have to bite the bullet. I did find that at the Whole Foods store in Ann Arbor, soy/rice milk is only 1.50 a carton, vs 2.49 a carton around here, and if I buy a whole case of it, you get like 3 dollars off it. So when we have appts at the hospital, I try to pop in there and check the sales---I even found a chocolate chip granola type bar that savannah will eat there w/o dairy or egg. !!CALORIES!!LOL I had even called Lansing(state capital) and asked..........they told me the same thing.
