Guest guest
I have a question for anyone familiar with Auditory Integration issues in their kids. We attended a Christmas boat parade recently which boasts a fantastic fireworks display at the conclusion. We had attended the same event last year, and my 5 y.o. Aspie remembered that there would be fireworks. He began to fret going. He loved watching the Christmas lights on the boats last year (when he was unaware of the fireworks to come), but this year, he was so worried about the fireworks that he couldn't focus on the boats. He got so worked up that we ended up leaving early, just so we wouldn't be around when the fireworks started. He loves to *watch* fireworks, but he can't stand the noise, and he usually ends up in the fetal position, hands covering his ears and he watches the show out of the corner of his eye. Of course, this occurs with any loud event--the movie theater, for example. I wish he could enjoy things without the auditory issues. Does anyone know where to find earphones that cancel sound? I saw some at Wal-Mart and online, but they all plug into something and generate some kind of static noise to drown out sounds. I need something like my grandfather had working with aircraft--it just blocks the sound like earplugs and doesn't plug into anything. We've tried earplugs, but they don't stay in his ears well and they don't seem to work for him, anyway. I think he would feel more secure if he had something totally covering his ears, the way his hands do. Also, it would be preferable if they were child sized so they won't fall off his head. I'm sure they make this, but I'm not sure where to look. Has anyone seen them? Thanks in advance!
