Guest guest
Hi all, I went ahead and took the family in for our flu vaccnes today. I talked with the dr about the menningococcal vaccine, and we have decided to give it to both the children but not at the same time as the flu vaccine. Dh Tim was voted to go first, and when the nurse did not swab his skin with an alcohol wipe he remembered what I had forgotten- that they did not wipe the childrens' arms last year with their flu vaccines, which I didnt relise until it was all over and done with and we were leaving the practice. So he said to the nurse, can you make sure you use the alcohol wipes on the children, as they have trouble with infection at the injection sites and were not swabbed last time Well, the nurse proceeded to tell him no, they do not ever wipe b4 the injections as it interfers with the injection product. I couldnt believe what I was hearing come out of her mouth! Is this TRUE??? We have had flu vaccines elsewhere and had the alcohol wipe done b4hand....... Anyway, we reached a compromise, she used the wipe and we waited a few extra seconds for the skin to dry b4 she did the injection. Now, am I completely wrong here in thinking this woman is nuts and has no idea what she is talking about? Is it more likely due to their wanting to cut costs and not using wipes to save a few dollars? I would love to access some paper noting that alcohol wipes are not contraindicated with this vaccine and present it to this practice and in particular to this nurse. s arm became infected at the injection site last year (cellulitis) and I am cetain that could have been avoided. They are both out of sorts thisevening and showing signs of reaction to the vaccination, s' arm is ballooning up and I am trying not to worry its more than a typical reaction at the injection site.
