Guest guest
THat was some great info and support! THe only reason tht I am looking for a curriculum is to help me understand how to organize Molly's (sorry...LOL...not Maggie....Maggie is the hand full of 3 year old that uses me as a jungle gym while I am trying to homeschool Molly), schoolwork. I think that it would be difficult to find a curriculum for Molly specifically because she tends to work at different levels in different areas....eg: she reads fluently...there is not a word that she cannot figure out if left to her own resources....but her handwriting is still that of a 1st grader....she adds and subtracts double digits....but she doesn't know how to count money....tell time in a more advanced manner. One thing her educational consultant said is not to stress about things like that....her comment was " how many adults do you know that don't know how to tell time or count money? " I was told by her that Molly is such a motivated and curious/creative thinker that she has the ability to learn easily by soaking up her environment and experiencing things....that she likes to learn on her own terms....at her own pace....with her own sense of creativity. She told me not to stand in her way and try to teach her " My way " of learning. If I try to, she gets bored....yawns incessantly and whines a lot....full of resistance. If I try to tell her how to write her story for instance....her response is to quickly shut me up, telling me.... " MOM!.....this is my story and I am going to write it my way!!!! " And she does...and for a 5 year old....she does it well. Molly is a very socially adept child....despite the fact that she has had to be somewhat secluded. Because she get pnuemonia every time she is exposed to a snot nosed child....we have not been allowed to take her into enclosed environments where there are a lot of children. Unfortunately, we even had to stop going to church because she got pnuemonia every time she went into the day care. We are always searching for ways to get her into social environments that are outside....we take her to the kids park....she plays soccer....she shows horses with other kids....she treasures her friends and I am always looking for a way to find more friends for her....but so much revolves around indoor activities and it is difficult. Molly does not seem to suffer much from her sometimes seclusive lifestyle....her pediactric immunologist told us not to worry because she has a little sister and they are eachothers best friends. On the other hand....her 3 year old sister, Maggie *who also has CVID) is developing some concerning behaviors. She is becoming shy....won't stray from me to play with other kids...goes off to play by herself at the park....she is content...she is just turning into more of a loaner. She will usually let down her guard after a period of time and start playing. I started her in Preschool in January in hopes of having more time to homeschool molly without Maggie's constant interuptions....but I had to pull her out after two days at the recommendation of the immuno because she too, got pnuemonia....this was pre-diagnosis and, as it turns out....her CVID appears to be worse than Molly's in testing. So it is a challenge. I wish that someone could come in and wave a magic wand so that my kids could be kids....but I also feel like the luckiest mom on earth that I get to spend this very precious time molding my children into who they are to become.!
