Guest guest
Dear Meemaw, For your own peace of mind about your grandson, I believe that about 95% of prison populations actually have mixed dominance. To be neurologically well-organized, an individual should be right-handed, right-eyed, right-eared, and right-footed, or left-handed, left-eyed, left-eared, and left-footed. Hand a child (or an adult) an empty toilet paper or paper towel tube and ask them to look through it. Notice which hand takes the tube and what they do with it. Establishing dominance (a dominant side) isn't that hard in kids. Check out www.IAHP.org The good thing is that this chromosome problem isn't visible. Although I do sympathize with your pain. And if you tell me how to get in touch with CBS, I'll be happy to do it. with Love, Francine In a message dated 5/19/2007 12:01:08 A.M. The irresponsible publication of an episode like the one tha aired last night will cause these kids and their families to suffer even more. Please, please write your local CBS affiliates or CBS New York and ask them to print a statement correcting the damage that was done with last night's episode. Guest guest
Francine – thank you so very much for taking the time to respond. I have taken the liberty of forwarding your message on to my daughter and we will certainly check out the information that you have so kindly sent us. Several people have already written to CBS protesting this program and the effects that the “killer” stereotype can have on our boyys. Although many CSI fans have retorted that the program was just “entertainment” they do not have to live with the fact that their child may be branded with this image. It was bad enough having a pediatric psychiatrist tell us “these are the kids that are filling up our jails” We who have been dealing with chromosome anomalies have gone to many lengths to overcome the stigma attached to the 1960’s survey, indicating that a high proportion of prisoners are “xyy”. This was absolutely false information. There is a link at the bottom of the CSI Miami website for Feedback. The link to the website follows: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/csi_miami/episodes/524/5.shtml We appreciate any help we can get to help reverse the damage that has already been done. Attempts are being made to have this episode removed from the schedule for re-runs or the boxed DVD sets. Many thanks again. If you had watched the entire episode, you would have seen one of the CSIs say there is absolutely NO scientific validity to that early study. They also showed the killer's motivation to be the fact that his family had erroneously believed the fallacious study and treated him as a criminal from a very early age. His behavior was definitely not connected to an extra chromosome. They were actually arguing your point for you. MargaretSee what's free at AOL.com.
