Guest guest
Hi, Barb. I'm so frustrated over the pleurisy right now...I'm sure you read that I ended up at the hospital the other night because of it. Now I'm up to 40 mg. of pred and i still have a little bit of pain. I'm supposed to drop to 30 mg. on Tuesday, but i'm getting concerned. I guess if I start having pain on the 30 I'll just have to call the doc again. I had been doing so well!!! I was down to 9 mg. I just wonder if my body can take getting below that. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent!
Guest guest
, I sure do hear you on the 40 mg of Prednisone! I just got back to 10 and still feel tightness in the bottom of my lung. I figured I would have to call the doc again but thankfully, it hasn't gotten any worse. Sometimes you have pain again when dropping while your body adjusts to the new dosage. I sure don't want to increase the steroids again. I've never gotten off them totally in the six years I've been sick. But since the weight loss group was developed I've done nothing but gain every week. It is so frustrating! I'm glad you're home and hopefully doing better. Hang in there. Love, Barb
Guest guest
Pleurisy is inflammation of the membrane covering the lungs and the lining of the chest wall. It can be associated with Stills or caused by a bacteria requiring antibiotics. It is painful and makes it difficult to take deep breaths. If it's Stills related increasing Prednisone will usually clear it up. Yes, it's possible to lose the Prednisone weight once the dose is lowered considerably, but it does seem to take a long time. Hope this helps. Barb in SLC, UT

Guest guest
Barb, Did you ever ask your doctor how much lung pain (if any) is ok? I tend to think a little is fine; but wonder. I think I'll ask at my next visit but was just curious if you or anyone else knew the answer. hang in there! love,

Guest guest
Hi Barb......I'm assuming it's Barb that's asking this question...... ) (you didn't sign your posting) Prednisone made me gain a TON of weight but now that I am on a lower dosage, my round face has disappeared and I'm trying to lose some weight but it's hard. I know my appetite isn't as voracious, as when I was on a high dose, I could eat every ten minutes. If I would stop eating sweets and yummies, I'm sure my weight would come off faster. I'm using the excuse to start watching what I eat for when I go back to Michigan. I have a friend here who will call me up at nine o'clock at night and off we'll go to the Outback for one of their Sinful Sundaes...... ( I really have no will power around her.............. ( Is your appetite as strong as it used to be? Trust me........the pounds will slowly start leaving you soon. At least, that's my experience. Were you a normal weight before the Prednisone? Good Luck.. ) Ca. Carmen

Guest guest
Hi! In my case, the answer to that question is no pain at all!At least when it comes to major organs.(as for the joints pain, if i have any, i hardly pay any attention to it as im used to them) 2 reasons: Pain is a manifestation from our bodie telling something is not quite right, and when that involves our major organs (heart, lungs, kidnee,etc...) we must find from where and why that pain. My second reason is that i have my ribcage almost " glued " for sometime now, and so less air in is not an option ;-) My pleurisy took almost 6 months to be extinguished (i hope forever!), the only drug that worked was Medrol (a sort of pred), now im taking 4mg and 50mg of Indometacyn?. Just my 2 cents, Nuno aka Nunito Re: Re: Pleurisy/Barb > Barb, > > Did you ever ask your doctor how much lung pain (if any) is ok? I tend to > think a little is fine; but wonder. Guest guest
My Doc told me not to expect weight loss till I'm below 10 mgs. and then it will be difficult and slow. He said that after I'm off of it for about a month, it will start to come off with little effort. I started the Atkens diet over a week ago on 10mgs. and lost 6lbs right off-thrilled-now I'm gaining right back without changing anything I've been eating! I'm in the induction phase so its pretty restrictive-I hate it when the doc's are right. I figure I'll finish the induction period and if I haven't lost at least 8 pounds, I'll shelve it till I'm down to 5 mgs and try again. Otherwise it is hardly worth starving. Atkens is full of it when he says protien is what fill you up. I am certain at least for me that it is grains and fiber. from MA Re: Re: Pleurisy/Barb I just have a quick question.....what exactly is Pleurisy?
