Is that 3600 before taxes or after taxes. I have a 7 Y/O son who has ppd nos and cod we travel 2and 1/2 hours to one doctor and go to a neuropsyhologist where we live. We recently statred having a lot of trouble at his school so Im assuming that this is also going to be a long haul. Also how do you go about signing him up for ss benifits? Thank you

RE: Social Security?

Here the salary requirements are according to how many are in your family. There are 5 in our family. We can make up to $3600 without affecting the SSI…..For the area we are in, where average rents are around $700 for a decent house, that’s not so bad at all…..

I was told by the last SSI intake that you have to

demonstrate a financial need to receive it, they

didn't tell me income limits. I do know that your

assets will also count against you with the exception

of the home you are living in and up to $6000 on a

vehicle.

WOW! We have homes here that rent for

$1200., but they are really nice 3-4 bedroom homes in ritzy areas at that

price. (like 2500-4000 sq. ft.) I pay $725. Our house is probably about 1800

sq.ft, amd is a 4 bedroom. I’m not in the “best” area. The

homes in our subdivision are all 25-30 years old, but it is very safe (people

out walking at night), and not a “bad” area of town.

But! Your resources in California are much much better than here!

We have to look, look, and look again to find what we need for our children,

and most of the time travel 200 miles to get it, to either Nashville or

Birmingham…..

Before taxes. I called all of the boys’

doctors and got all of their records ahead of time, and took them with me to

the appointment along with school records, my work records showing how much

time I had to take off to get them to appointments, etc to show the hardship of

being able to work a full time job, daycare records, including the ones they

couldn’t function in to do aftercare programs (got letters from them

stating what type of things they did to keep them from being able to stay

enrolled) and anything else I could find. They still had to get all the records

from the places themselves, but it did dramatically speed up the process that

they already had records in hand to evaluate. Then I called all of those

offices and let them know what I was doing and asked them to please send the

boys’ records as soon as possible when SSI contacts them. All were very

cooperative in helping me get it. Call the SSI number in your area to make an

appt. If you know you are going to have a long wait for an appointment, go

ahead and make it, then collect the records, so you’ll have them all by

the appt time….

Both my kids get SSI and the limit is $2000. We are

in Los Angeles and the rent for a two bedroom duplex

is almost $1100 and I have been here since August of

1998 when it was $740.

Now the apartments in my area are going for 1200- 1400

for one bedroom, so looks like we will be staying here

indefinitely.

There is a group called ssi4kids that has data

in the files for families that I found helpful, even

though my kids have been on SSI since late 90s.

In California, that is not true. You can own a home, and they don't count it as part of your assets if you are living in it. I believe every state is a bit different.

The amount ssi depends on how many you

have in the family, what your income is, etc…I know what were are

allowed went up pretty dramatically after I had my daughter eight months

I'm sorry but you're wrong. I owned a home and got SSI

for not only myself, but my other son as well. It is

your living space and you can get SSI if you own and

home and live in it. There may be a limit as to how

much equity you have in it to qualify. Just like in a

vehicle.

Our rent is $800 for 4 bed 2.5 baths, for a townhouse.

Most rents here are over $1200 and homes rents for

even more. We're north of Salt Lake City. So we stay

where we're at as a larger home isn't affordable.

Here in San Diego, it is around 1300 for a one bedroom apartment. We were paying 3400 a month on a mortgage, and got the best deal after we sold our house - we have a 4 bedroom for 1850/mo.vickie <blackfoot124@...> wrote: wow , that is a lot of rent. here in pa the income limit is 2100 after that u get an adjuseted amount. i live in a 5 bedroom house and pay 575 (it

You can own a home and get SSI. The home you live in doesn't count against you. However if you own a home that you do not live in, then they consider that a money maker and you will not get SSI.See what's free at AOL.com.

Tell me that the $450 is per week or fortnight. I can't imagine rent that

cheap for a month. After converting Australian $ to US$ I came up with

about US $1100 as the cheapest we could expect to pay around here. Most

houses are AU $350- 450 per week [uS $ 280-350]. To get anything under AU

$250 [uS $ 200] means you either have had a miracle happen or you're living

in your parent's garage.

You're all so lucky.... when I first moved to RI my one bedroom apartment in a complex (NOT fancy, near the ghetto) was $900 a month. We rent a 3 br house about 6-7 miles outside the city and are paying $1300 for rent. From what I hear, SSI doesn't pay any attention to the cost of living in your area so even though we're broke on 80K/yr combined simply to have electricity, heat & hot water (which can be up to $600 a month in the winter and it's never above 62 inside), and a roof over our heads, we still need to apply for Beckett because we make " too much money. " I really wish we could move!!!

PS- finally got our diagnosis- PDDNOS. That Beckett paperwork is a KILLER! It's like the " how bad off is your kid? " game. It's depressing to prove that our somewhat high functioning kid requires " an institutional level of care. "

well i am in pa and depending on what location u r in and what type of house it is is what u get for rent i live in a 5 bedroom house owned by a church in a nicer part of town but not the rich part of town my rent is 575. but i know in another town to look for anything 575 or less is next to impossible and that is for a 3 bedroom house.it just goe by location what towns are cheapoest tax wise and rent wise the cheaper ones here r usually the poorer communitiesb the more exepensive is the risher neighborhoods.but to find any of this u got to look and look and look and some times just luck into it
