Hello,

I have been reading here for a while and would like to introduce

myself.

The reason I am reading here is my dd (6) who has OC problems. It is

going on for some while, perhaps almost 2 years, but 1.5 y. ago I

realized that something is " wrong " . We are dealing with clothes

(difficulties to get dressed-nothing is " right " ), reassurance,

contamination fear and concerns about illness and body functions

(hand washing), a lot seems to be the perfectionism kind of thing (

just not right). The difficult thing for me is that whenever one OC

is under control the next one pops up , it seems to be endless.

Another problem are mood problems and I am not sure that they are

somehow related to the OC , but fact is that they can be more rage-

like and involve behavior which concerns me more and more.

We do see a ped.-neuropsych. and will have another appointment coming

up soon . I think we also need to find a CBT/ERP therapist who helps

us as I can't do it all alone by myself.

Perhaps I do not really have a huge problem all the time but somehow

I feel exhausted from that whole situation.

Thank you for reading this.

Hi...Just wanted to say you are at the right place...you couldnt ask

for a better group for support and understanding!! I have been a part

of this group for 5 years now. My dd started showing problems with

cloths (underwear the most) at age 3, she is now 11. I don't think

the OC problems have gotten better (nor worse) she has just learned

how to handle them better (move along with life " faster " ) but " we "

handled the underwear problem with...just not wearing any! she wears

jeans mostley or skorts that have the built in underwear (but finding

just the right ones is difficult because there not tight enough)

mostley jeans... I had to give in to that or there was just no

getting out of the house. I have noticed lately addvertisements in

magazines about " more comfortable " underware...I myself just never

thought about it. But Crystal sure puts a lot of thought into it!!

Other issues are over wiping in the bathroom! Scoks can be a problem

Also she has the rages usually if she needs to go to the bathroom and

keeps putting it off (cause of the wiping and not dry enough feeling)

that makes her angree and she lashes out at me over anything. The

rages are what took me to the doc. our psychiatrist has her on 50mg.

Zoloft that is just enough to take the edge off her rages. She was

hitting and bitting me bad! It may also help her handle her cloths

issues. Sounds like you are where I was 5 years ago if you need to

you can email me at pelicanstwo@... I know how you feel.

Hi Shirley,

Thank you so much for sharing that with me! Here the same with underware - I

also buy the " build in " skorts and she doesn't wear any underware at all -

otherwise the same here - not getting out of the house *gg*. That is one I don't

fight over , just doesn't make sense, there are more severe issues. But winter

is tough on us, she had the same problem last winter , the transition from

shorts and t shirts to long pants and sweater is a pain (but I can't let her run

in shorts in winter).

It is interesting that others are also dealing with rage like issues. The

meltdowns she has when I do not accommodate her OC are somehow easier to manage

, basically I ignore it , she doesn't damage anything and let me know when I

need to help her getting dressed. But there are out of nowhere " rages " when she

has the tendency to kick and hurt us or if she can't do that , she does hurt

herself somehow (example:putting her finger between door and frame ). I am not

sure that this is b/c of OC but I can see us heading towards medication.

Yesterday she screamed " You are ruining my life " b/c I had to get her door room

out of the frame , she was in progress of destroying door and frame.

It is nice to meet people who are dealing with the same issues!

Hi sabcla,

I just wanted to say, " welcome " and I think you will really receive some great

support in this group.

I have 3 kids with ocd, and 2 of them also have mood disorders, so I

understand about the rages and other things you are going through.

We are all here if you have any questions.

This is a great group!

Hugs

Welcome sabcla

this is a great place - sounds like a lot of us have these

bathroom/underwear issues - we've been doing ERP since last week with

great success so far in regards to clothing - she was saving underwear

to fight last but came to my bed this morning and surprised me with a

new pair on - she's doing great and yes OCD flares up, waxes/wanes so

you do have moments that are harder than others but we're here when you

need - my dd is 7 no meds but she's really a great fighter - and when

when I told her tonight that I read about other kids with the same

issues she said , " Just tell them I was ok in 2 hours! " - LOL!!!!

good luck

Eileen :-)

Hi, welcome! I have a son, 17, whose OCD began around age 11.5 after

he began 6th grade.

Some of what you said reminded me of him. Illness was one thing he

was overly concerned with when young (before 6th grade); it was like

he felt every little thing going on in his body and was overly

concerned about it. But back then it wasn't a daily thing, just

something that came up frequently at times, then seemed to go away,

then back.... Perhaps it was always still there but he just got

tired of me getting tired of his asking! :)

With his OCD, some of what he went through was needing the feeling

of " just right " but he also did things due to the feeling that

something bad would happen to him if he didn't. He said that " both "

those feelings/needs were always there together.

Anyway, that all finally got better (much later) and now he's dealing

with bad thoughts, scrupulosity and religion. Hard to believe, I

almost miss the compulsions/rituals, those physical things I could

see his OCD making him do.

It did seem that new things would pop up a lot. Some things went

away, some stayed a while. It can seem endless!

Tantrums, meltdowns, etc., can happen due to OCD. The stress and

anxiety the person is under, OCD's constant demands, our not

complying with the demands.... It can be difficult to distinguish

when something is OCD related or just age or a " stage " of

personality, etc. But if you can see/feel any anxiety going on prior

to the rage/tantrum, then there's a good chance it's OCD related.

Yes, look for a therapist who does CBT and ERP!

Well, just wanted to say " hi! " and welcome to the group. This place

has been my best support through the years, having others to

understand OCD in our children!

SO glad to see this, Eileen! Your girl and mine sound very similar!

Hi, and Welcome!

My daughter, 9, has (primarily) the " just right " OCD, too, and it is

very hard to deal with, and keep on top of with all the new things

that come up, as you pointed out. She is normally the sweetest kid,

but would have terrible tantrums and rages when in an OCD moment,

especially if I was forcing her to face her fear and not give in to

what OCD wants her to do.

A therapist who specializes in OCD with children who does CBT with ERP

will do wonders for your daughter. I hope you can find one nearby; if

you have any trouble, be sure to ask for help on this board; if you

tell us where you live, someone may know of a therapist in your area.

Also, if insurance is an issue (as in they refuse to pay for a

specialist) you can fight back and if you're persistant there's a good

chance you'll win.

Hang in there - hope you find some relief soon...and some much needed

rest!
