Guest guest
Dear (h) It may be that he misses going to church and/or going together. What if you read the Bible together? I don't know about the tv evangelists of whom you speak; however, I do have a videotape of Joyce Meyer, and that lady really knows her Bible. And she has a great sense of humour. Just wonderful. It's called: Sudden Breakthroughs. I think she's got lots more though. Maybe you could watch a videotape together and read the Bible passages she (or any Bible speaker) talks talks about together and discuss them. That way he'd get an intelligent perspective on God and religion. And it's a very uplifting experience to study Bible passages. You can even use a dictionary and Strong's Concordance (both found online as well as in books, to get a deeper meaning. In doing this, either his interest will wane, or it will deepen into a true blessing. The good thing about videotapes (at least the one we have) is that there is no pitch for money, so it's more like going to a fun Bible teacher. Also, the American Bible Society used to have some interesting MTV-like videos of Bible stories. The one of Jesus healing the Gadarene man of insanity was really wonderful and powerful. To see him healed and in his right mind is so uplifting! Also there is a man who gives a one-man play of The Gospel of Mark. He knows it by heart! And he makes it come to life right before your eyes! We went to see him years ago, and then I got the videotape of him. At least he's not obsessed with the insides of a vacuum cleaner. I wouldn't have a clue as to how to uplift that one! Okay, this may not sound bad and I know things could be worse but it is bad when he's taken it to the point he has. We had gone to church in the past together but we no longer do that. This stopped awhile ago. Now with satellite TV his obsession has become televangelists. He is watching a lot of them and always looking for the 'latest' one. He gets so wound up into them and loses all common sense. He wants to travel the country to meet these people in person. He wants to throw what little money he has at them. He believes anything they say. He could tell them to jump off a bridge and they would. It is just scary to think how much he trusts these people and I know it could be anyone and these people could get him to do anything. How can I talk sense intothis guy? Sadly he's watching the worst of the worst and most of these people have beenproven to be cons and after money.
