I'm helping to work on an article for Ig Living that will be coming out in the

issue in August - We want to provide other parents examples of modifications

and accomidations in some real 504 and IEP's - for instance in Charlie's IEP he

has this -

Child should not ever be denied access to the bathroom due to gastrointestinal

complications of his disease.

Can other people pop on and give me some examples of what kind of things are in

your child's IEP or 504? This will be used in the magazine - but there will be

no names - so - it will show like above. We have an educator and PID parent who

has written about 504 & IEP's - so this will give parents real life examples of

how other parents have handled the situation. We are especially interested in

the older kids - how does their IEP deal with illness and absenteeism?

If possible - we are looking to have it completed by Monday evening.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO SOME OF THE HARDEST WORKING MOTHERS I KNOW!!!

Dayna

In our 504, we have that our child will not be penalized for absences, will

not be held back. We also have that homework will be adjusted according to how

long our son is absent (for example, only doing the odds or evens of a math

assignment, etc.). We also have included that he not be required to take

makeup quizzes or tests on the day he returns from a lengthy illness.

There may be other things, but I am in the middle of helping Tim get caught

up from another absence.

Thanks, Pam

Hi Dayna,

is allowed to rest as needed (this was put in the note from his Ped

to his school). He is also allowed to carry a water bottle with him in all of

his classes--because none of his Docs (or his Mom) want him drinking out of

the fountains!! This is especially important the week before IVIG. I also have

water stocked in the office that has his name on it--for when he runs out.

He is also allowed to use the bathroom as many times as necessary--no questions

asked.

If he misses school, the assignments he misses are not held against him--or

counted in his grade. This part will change as he can go to school full

time. I felt it necessary because we are still battling a lot of fatigue issues

with him.

Because he does not attend full time yet--a tutor comes to the house twice

a week to cover language arts--which is what he misses in the afternoons. His

schedule is arranged at school so he does not have PE--which would be a waste

of any energy he may have at this point.

Sandi, Mom to --age 13--CVID
