Guest guest
Does anyone have any idea what causes skin to peel on the fingers/palms. We're pretty sure it's not strep as he (Evan) has been on abx for months. Our infectious disease doc thinks it might be a type of eczema. I'm not sure what to do about it. They peel so badly that his fingertips almost bleed and are very painful. Lotion burns and ointment makes it hard for him to do things. It seems to be a recurring problem, he's had this many times and it lasts for months. Any thoughts? Guest guest
had this for a while (fingers and some toes) and our ped said it was eczema. We put OTC hydrocortisone as per her instructions and it cleared up. He's not the one with eczema problems-ph is a walking eczema patch! LOL ph has never (to my knowledge) gotten this. Anyway-you may want to ask your doctor about what you can use on it. . Have you ever used Aquaphor? You can get it OTC. My hands crack and bleed and I put this on (we also use it for J's eczema along with prescription creams when needed)-I put it on and then put a pair of rubber gloves over my hands and stay like that for as long as I can stand it (several hours or more) and it really helps. If you use the hospital rubber gloves, they make it easy to do things. I can type, write, etc... you need a willing helper to help get them on so that you don't get ointment or cream all over the gloves- maybe try the small gloves and see if they work for him? Peace Be With You, Pattie Don't let your past dictate who you are now, but let it be a part of who you will become. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of S Sent: Friday, March 24, 2006 6:54 AM Subject: Peeling skin on fingers Does anyone have any idea what causes skin to peel on the fingers/palms. Guest guest
Macey has this. At 4 or 5 her feet were the worst but now at 10 it is her hands. At 4 yrs old she saw a Rheumatologist for that and joint problems but I can't for the life of me remember what he said it was. But it is related to an autoimmune condition (or at least in her case it was). We watch it and make sure that there aren't any deep open sores. If so then we have to change to a staph coverage antibiotic. And this is Clindamycin which covers strep! So, it may be helpful to do a biopsy to rule out strep. Sandi, Mom to --age 13--CVID
