I found this quite intresting and thought I'd tell you all about this and see

what you all have to say.

My son Reiyan (just turned 2), 27 week preemie with Downs, still doesn't walk

(or crawl for that matter - just combats). When he pulls to a stand he lifts

his toes way off the floor where just his heel is touching the ground - We are

thinking maybe sensory issues in his feet. He has very little intrest in

walking and when we force the issue he will take 5 steps (maybe) and that is

with FULL support.

So, we started ice skating and the other day Reiyan was having a fit because

he wanted to be out with all the kids. I brought him on the ice with us (with

his shoes, not on skates) and I had him stand on the ice and he actually stood

with me holding only one hand of his... THAT IS AMAZING - because he doesn't

stand unless his chest is against something like the coffee table. Then, with

support, he started taking steps like he has never taken them before. He was

bending his knee and raising his leg high and it was the first time he looked

like he wanted to walk.

So...I told PT about this and they found it intresting. They brought out ice

packs for him to do therapy with and he had his best therapy session ever.

What do you all think of this??? INTRESTING. I wonder if the cold ice takes

away his sensory issues in his feet? He loves sleeping on the cold tile too.

Hope to hear from you all soon. Sorry I have not been communicating much but

we are in the middle of moving and it is pretty hectic.

Kim
