Guest guest
The 2nd psychologist we went to made a comment about my daughter's birthmark. She said that an interesting fact to know is that people with that type of birthmark are more likely to have OCD than those who don't have that type of birthmark. I'm not positive of the name of the birthmark, but I've seen what I believe is the same mark on the Internet called a " cafe au lait " mark. It's about the size of a silver dollar (I'm sure size can vary) & it's like a free-form shape. It's pretty light in color (brownish/tan) & completely flat (no raised area at all). Her's happens to be on her thigh, but I'm sure they can be anywhere on the body. I'm just wondering if anyone's kids have the same???? I was only able to find one picture of something that looked close to it on the Internet... I can email it if anyone wants to see it. Guest guest
Abby has several birth marks, but they are the red kind, very small, in a few spots, not raised. My younger dd has a few, too. My older ds does as well, as do I. Sharon Birthmarks & OCD... The 2nd psychologist we went to made a comment about my daughter's birthmark. Guest guest
That is very interesting. My oldest daughter, with the undiagnosed ocd has one of these on her thigh also, but my other two kids diagnosed with the ocd don't have one. hugs Judy

My dh does not, neither does my eldest son, both have OCD. Kim The psychologist only said that people with that birthmark are 'more likely' to have OCD. I had never heard of such a think either. She actually used a word to define it. Maybe I should call her & ask what the term was, I don't remember. Anyway, don't know what made me think about that the other day (as this appt was a couple months ago) but I just was interested to see what the response would be if I asked on the board. Guest guest
My son has two prominent cafe au lait's. When we found two more, his neurologist became concerned about the possibility of neurofibromatosis type I, and it did turn out that we found a total of 6, possibly 7 on a black light exam. His MRI was negative though, and he doesn't have any other symptoms, but he's only 5 and some don't appear until close to puberty for many people. I had never heard of cafe au lait's correlating to OCD. Do you have any links on that? Sherri

Sherri - No I don't, but I'm going to try & remember to call that psychologist when I return from my trip & ask her more about it & if there's any information on the Internet on it. I tried searching for a connection between them & OCD but came up with zip. I'll let board know if she gives me any links on it. It is kind of weird, huh?
