-the test to check for reflux is called a VCUG. They want to see if

urine is backing up into the kidneys. They place a catheter and fill the

bladder with sterile saline and use x-rays to check for reflux. My ph

had this test done after he had his first UTI-because in boys that get UTIs,

there is a high rate of bladder reflux. Glad the visit went well.

Ever wonder where the term gerrymandering comes from? While serving as

governor of Massachusetts from 1810 to 1812, Elbridge Gerry helped enact a

law dividing the Bay State into political districts favorable to his own

party. This resulted in some odd shaped districts. One district looked like

a salamander, someone said. Someone else joked that it looked more like a

" gerrymander, " making a play on the governor's name. To this day, the

practice of drawing boundary lines to favor a political party or group is

called gerrymandering.

Is this as horrible as it sounds? I was hoping it would be

noninvasive. Dang it.

So glad to hear that you found a doc that you trust. Please keep us posted.

My little girl is very sick today -- was given Tamiflu and had an adverse

reaction (vomiting and bleeding) so I have a feeling that I will be

incommunicado for a few days...

It wasn't pleasant. But it is pretty short... sorry to burst your bubble.

Is this the test he said they needed to do? The VCUG?

They can do it either way-I know kids who had it done with ultrasound and

with X-rays. Our children's hospital does x-ray.. They may have changed

over the years to doing it with ultrasound as J had his done when he was

3-so that was over 5 years ago.

I think he mentioned ultrasound to check for the urinary reflux. Does

having this reflux cause pain?

By the way, Ana's new immuno today mentioned he would like her to

have an abdominal ultrasound to check for increased lymphnoids in her

abdomin. He just said to call if the doc found anything like that.

Do any of you know what that means? Could that be causing her pain??

It is, and that is me trying to type without proofreading while

entertaining a one year old! So the big lymph node was painful for

him? That is very interesting...thanks!

-it was very painful! He had pain for at least a week and it was

severe enough and right over his appendix-hence the needing to r/o

appendicitis.
