Guest guest
We too have a trampouline, which we use for pre-fine motor exercise. We've found that our 9yo AS/HFA son tolerates frustration better and longer (hence making him more " available " to gain new skills!) if we give him heavy sensory exercise beforehand. In bad weather, we use a gym mat and play the " squishy taco " game where we fold the mat over him and squish him -- kind of like Temple Grandin's machine. When he was smaller, we used to have a blow-up pool with higher sides (2+ft?) and filled it with plastic balls. That worked ok, and he loved it, but it's more expensive takes kind of a lot of room. One other thing my son developed for himself was jumping down stairs. I was never wild about it, but since we couldn't stop him from doing it spontaneously, I tried to do damage control by allowing it under specific conditions. Eventually we made a landing pad with huge pillows. For us, almost anything we did helped for at least a little while for at least something, but by the same token, nothing works all the time in all circumstances. We've purchased some things from Southpaw Enterprises, but have also just gotten ideas to try by browsing through the catalogue.I think their website is www.southpaw.com Good luck! Guest guest
I've seen trampoline's for indoor use, called rebounders. There are some with handles for the wild jumper. We, too, have a 9 yr old HFA who thrives with jumping. He can be a couch potato and the jumping is perfect. We have the big trampoline outside and are getting the rebounder with handle for inside use. He is a big kid (almost 5 feet tall and 85 pounds), so we are getting the one for adults.
