Guest guest
Pattie, Calvin does not have OCD issues. Initially, I did plan a special activity for his SubQ time when we first switched over. I made sure that it was something that he would look forward to. The nurses at our IV site used to treat him like a prince....so I wanted to make sure that he still felt special enough to look forward to infusions. Eventually we have gotten so that we often just did our usual stuff during infusion and he is cool with that now. Also, I use a tootsie pop for the actual poke. I have continued this until the present. Any treat that would last a little while would work for that. I also emphasized that, since they wouldn't have to search for a vein that the injections are a lot quicker and fool-proof. The biggest ouch is really when the meds are first going in and the skin has to stretch a little to accomodate. This is what I did to make the change a little smoother. Hope all goes well as you start out SubQ. WE have loved it and wouldn't go back....it has been a blessing. Anyone with kids that have OCD tendencies try this? It'll take me forever and a HUGE bribe to get him to go for it. is already sold on the idea-- all I had to tell him was that we'd be at home and he'd likely have less headaches and vomiting! ph doesn;t care about ANY of that-- he cares about routine. I have to talk to him about it to get him used to the idea otherwise it will be a nightmare to switch. Tonight he asked, " Why can't the doctor come here and do it? I really only want you to poke me in my hand or arm. " He feels less awful than post-infusion, but still has enough pain to require Motrin. --------------------------------- Photos Got holiday prints?
