Hi Bob,

What an uplifting letter from in San Francisco. I'm not too clear on

what she expects from us regarding volunteers. I'm all for helping in what

ever way I can so count me in and let me know how and when I can give to the

Tri2help organization.

Hi Bob,

I'm writing to you on behalf of the San Francisco Triathlon Club and my

boyfriend, Lambert. and i are both members of the club and on

the board of directors. Last year he had a great triathlon season and ended

by qualifying for and racing at the USA Triathlon National Championships.

One month later he thought he had come down with a bad case of the flu and

after about three weeks of the 'flu' and not getting any better he was

admitted to the hospital and eventually diagnosed with Stills Disease.

It was a devastating couple of months. wasn't sure if he was ever

going to be able to exercise again, let alone race triathlons, which had

become a huge part of his life. However, he's been treated with Prednisone

now for five months and has made so much progress. He's training again and

is scheduled to race his first triathlon of the season in May! He still has

a lot of aching and is still trying to get back to the shape he was in

before being diagnosed with Stills. He's gotten to a point mentally where

he knows he has to learn how to live with this disease and is learning best

how to cope with it from day to day.

The triathlon club we're in has a committee called tri2help which is

focusing on giving back to the community. One of the ideas I threw out to

them was a run/walk that we would try to get our 230 members to sign up for,

as well as all members of the bay area triathlon community. The idea would

be to ask everyone to pay a registration fee and then donate the money from

the fees to your organization to be used for educational awareness and

research. We would ask, however, that your organization help out with

volunteers for the race in return. I think this would be a great way to

raise awareness of Stills Disease, to use the tri2help committee to give

something back to the community and to give back to someone within our own

triathlon community as well.

We're looking at doing this sometime in the late summer. There are a lot of

details we'd need to work out but i wanted to get the ball rolling to see if

this is something your foundation would even be interested in joining forces

with us on.

Please let me know if this is something we can work together on. Thank you

for your time.

Hi Bob,

Are you going to keep in touch with them or are we supposed to call or fax

something to those numbers gave? I can't imagine how any of us could

be of any help being that we all live miles away from San Francisco. I

wonder what kind of help she is looking for as I'd be very willing to do

anything via computer or mail. If this benefit run gets off the ground......

I WANT A T-SHIRT !!! I hope they know that the " Dragon " is our logo... :o)

We're right in the running with Polo and Izod, yes? :o)

Keep us informed if it progresses any further.

..........I turned on my pool heater......let's all meet in my

backyard tonight although when I looked up in the sky last night, it was only

a half moon. Should we wait another couple of weeks?

We have a lot of marathons here in Palm Springs and I think I should maybe

stand on my curb and ask them if they are running for the Still's Foundation.

At least that would make them aware of us....... :o)

Hi Brent,

I'd sure love to know someone with Stills that does run marathons. I don't

think I'd even make it from the car to the starting line. I could toot my

horn in encouragement, though............ :o)

To get into our pool, I have to put a chaise lounge by the steps so I can

hold on to it. I did two laps each of breast stroke, side stroke and back

stroke and I'm wondering if that wasn't too much exertion. I'm in agreement

with you that too much exercise is not the way to go. Sure..........'s

boyfriend is taking Prednisone. When I take strong doses, I can climb

mountains...swim oceans...etc. etc. but I know I won't so I don't make things

worse. That darn Prednisone is so " good feeling " but so " BAD " for

us............ :o(

Are you coming to our moonlight party?

Geez, Sue,

I don't have a porch and it seldom rains here. Tricia will have to make do

with a pool deck and a starry night. Dan's bringing the wine but why only a

half jug? But then again,,,,being on MTX, I'm not allowed any " good time "

stuff......... :o(

, will you still dance under a half moon?

Hi Bob,

From what I gather, they are looking for folks with Stills

to join in this run/walk Triathlon. In the third paragraph..

I quote " we would ask, however, That your organization

help out with *volunteers for the race* in return. " unquote.

Hey Gang:

I must have read that message wrong. I seemed to think

that they were requesting volunteers to help with the setting up and running

the race or whatever. I don't think they were looking for monetary

contributions or for participants. According to them they have plenty of

them. I think they want help in the organizing. Take care now an be PAIN

I don't know. I could probably make it from my car to the start line.

I guess this guy's Stills has not disabled him yet, and he has the will to

keep going. Doesn't he know exertion can make Stills worse? He was

excellent physical condition when he got sick, and has probably a year or so

before he will no longer be able to run much if at all, if he does not

remiss. Hopefully, he will remiss and keep on running. The prednisone is

likely allowing him to keep going for now.

I fought it hard my first year or so too, until I could barely walk due to

inflammation and severe systemic edema.

Brent,

We *dance* instead..or maybe just watch & laugh!

Running was my favorite past time until the disease hit.

Now (thanks to knee replacement) I can walk again, and

dance if I want to.

There is no way anyone should try to run unless they are

totally in remission. They will certainly pay for it in the future.

I'll be running by your street so have that drink(s) ready! Also I'm already at

that dancin' place waiting for you and Melt!

Re: Fw: benefit run

I would be perfectly willing to stand at the end of my road and offer

drinks to passerbys.

this is probably not going to help those in California but others here

might appreciate it, escpecially if they are spiked.

By the way:

Melt and I are going dancin tonight, anyone else in at being out?
