My 4 year old son has developed a new obsession. His old obsession was Letter and Numbers. His new obsession is buttons. As in light switches and any button. Press the button to see the reaction. It has become a very serious and dangerous obsession. Yesterday as I picked him up from his school and we were walking through the corridors he saw the button of the fire alarm. He was about to press it when a lady working in the cafeteria stopped him. She said “bad boy , bad boy stop that”. “You bad boy who does not eat also at the cafeteria and trouble your teachers”. She went on babbling after that to the lady who was walking with her. My older NT boy got very very embarrassed by this. I got very very sad by this. He has in the past few weeks done more dangerous things. He has climbed over the stove to get to the switches on the range for light and exhaust. He has put a plug in the outlet to get light or music and much more things. All the times we have stopped him before he has hurt or harmed himself. Around new year’s day we were invited to someone’s house. This couple did not have children. My child as usual wanted to play with the buttons. He wanted to turn off/on the television. He wanted to play with buttons in the refrigerator for water etc. I stopped in every time he did that. But our hostess was not happy with that. She was loud and vocal and very very disapproving. This lady knew about his “Aspergers”.

Bottomline is I have tried everything to stop this obsession but it continues to be even bigger and bad obsession. We cannot do anything with a calm mind anymore. Anywhere we go he sees the buttons and he is trying to go at it. Letter and Numbers were soooo much better obsession.

Does anyone have any idea how to deal with this.

Thanks in advance.
