My son and daughter both had a seizure after having their 15month shot.

Did anyone else have this happen to them? Also was wonder how many

people have a history of Autism in their family. I couldn't find any in

mine or my husbands.

My daughter has febrile seizures. They accure when there is a temperature

spike. If your

children had a temp from the shots this may have been the cause. My daughter

has had one

febrile seizure where there was no temperature spike just a low grade fever

(under 102), but

it was still associated with a fever so they are sticking with febrile seizures

for now. My

daughter is not autistic and other than the seizures is developing at a great

rate.

There are no diagnosed autistics in my family nor my husbands, but we can see

autistic like

characteristics especially on my husbands side. They are all scientists and

programmers and

engineers. Some of the stereotypical traits overlap with autism. Especially

their ability to

focus for long periods of time and look at things differently than others do.

No firm

diagnosis and no long term help or any services ever provided to any of them. I

have sensory

issues that seem to play a part in my son's autism, but I was never diagnosed

with anything.

Depends on what you were looking for - if you asked if anyone had a dx of

autism, then you would likely get a negative answer. However, if you look

for people who are awkward socially, avoid family gatherings, are known as

'loners' or 'eccentric', or perhaps people with intractable depression (ie

no depresssion drug ever seems to work), you may find a few! No-one will

talk about the meltdowns, but they do happen, even with adults.

married into a family who have clearly generations of ASD, but not one apart

from my son with a dx.

I was just wondering why both my children have autism but there is no history anywhere in both mine and my husbands family with anyone with autism. My doctor tells me its genetic. I believe it could be from the immunization shots. Rowell <nancy@...> wrote: >>My son and daughter both had a seizure after having their 15month shot.Did anyone else have this happen to them? Hello afortney74, didn't see your name.

Anyway my son Marty started having seizures after his shots years ago, it was his last shot in a series, and he was about 18 months old. He did not have a seizure right away like some do, had a bit of a fever that night and felt kind of ill for a few days, and soreness around the area. It was probably a few weeks later when they started, and at first were small, just little jerks, and staring spells, then they grew to grand mal, and after that they got bad, dozens every month, he went on meds for them but nothing ever worked to stop the seizures, not to this day, and he is 42 years old now!

I read somewhere once that if a child has seizures that no usual anti seizure meds will help it was probably caused from the shots. I did learn that the P in the shot, DPT, could sometimes cause seizures in children. It is for pertussis, whooping cough, the D is for diphtheria, and T for tetanus.

He was not born retarded, was developing normally until then, but with all the seizures and drug reactions he became unable to learn normally and progress, and became autistic too.....

Poor guy, he's been through a lot in life, even yet, now we have to watch him like hawks for pneumonia, and he has a stomach tube, is incontenent, wears Depends, can barely walk anymore, needs assistance because he has no balance anymore, it is sad really, but we love him with all our hearts.

Now they have warnings for parents when their babies go for shots, if somebody in your family has seizures, etc. But even at that the shots are safer now, all three of my other kids were vaccinated, and all six of my grandkids, figured we couldn't let fear run our lives, my son was 1 out of 300,000 I once read.

And really we don't even know if the shots caused the seizures, for SURE. Sigh.

Carolyn in Oregon, going to snow today they are saying!

Thanks for the input. How old is your daughter and son? My daughter is 3 and my son is 9 they both have different forms of autism. She has PDD and he has Aspergers. She was developing normally until ahe turned 15months. Then everything seemed to stop.Angie <kayak_krazi@...> wrote: My daughter has febrile seizures. They accure when there is a temperature spike. My daughter is 21-months and my son is 3.5-years old. My son is in a strange

spot

because some of the doctors say autism and others say various disorders, but not

autism.

They all agree on the language disorder & sensory processing, but some doctors

then call

my son's stim like behavior adjustment disorder - NOS instead of putting him on

the

spectrum. The difference, they say, is that autism is for life, but those that

believe my son

is not autistic say he will grow out of it with therapy and will be mainstream

by

kindergarten. Did you get conflicting diagnosis with your kids? So far my son

has been

assessed by a neuropsychologist, psychologist, peds. neurologist, OT/ST, and an

evaluator

with an autism program (plus his pediatrician.) It is those in the psych that

believe it isn't

autism and the other doctors believe it is (the OT said no and isn't qualified

to diagnose

but works with many autistic children...the ST doesn't comment on anything but

speech.)

Its so strange that they disagree. That is not something I thought I would run

into. Nor

did I realize there were so many different tests that each can use. I thought

you might

have some insight considering you have two kids with different diagnosis.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry, I know I am late on this one (has been a CRAZY week!) but I have to tell you you are not alone! My dd has had multiple dx over the years (she will be 14 in two weeks) and they change her dx depending on the doc and even the symptoms at the time. They finally settled this all down a little over a year ago when they added AS as the primary dx but when they did that, they took off the BP which they FINALLY added back in this fall. In my opinion, it should have been there the entire time, talk about cycling, but that is a whole other conversation! The point is, they did add and subtract and change dx so much that my dd screamed at her therapist and I on Wed night that there is nothing wrong with her, the doctors can't even make up their minds so what do they know since they change her dx constantly!!! SHE doesn't even "know" what she "has" and is probably normal and the docs are wrong.(these are all what she said) We

looked at each other and then I volunteered to let my dd see the letter listing all her dx so she would know and said that, yes, they have switched them around some but they have actually settled on the list that combines all the prior dx and the current so they were not "wrong", they just did not have the total picture. (AS, ADHD, ODD,and BiPolar) She is currently manic and pms'ing so not very reasonable but she did have a point. I realized how frustrating it has been for us, but not for her. She is emotionally much younger than her age (about 7 per her therapist) so I sometimes forget that she does understand these things and it much be even more frustrating for her to have those things change constantly than it is for me! Sorry so long, just wanted to share, she did not get correctly diagnosed until she was 12 going on 13 with AS, it is VERY hard when you just want to help your child and the docs who are SUPPOSED

to help you cannot even agree with each other long enough to help anyone! God bless and good luck! DeeDee Angie <kayak_krazi@...> wrote: My daughter is 21-months and my son is 3.5-years old.
