Great news Carolyn! Prayers are surely being answered. As for Tom, it's alright to mess up, just so long as he knows he can start all over on the road to recovery. I am a recovering alcoholic 13 years sober in Jan and I "messed up" a couple of times before I "got it" right too. That is VERY common with alcoholics. Just have to get back to meetings and stay away from old friends and such.So glad there is good news. I know you are run ragged but you continue to impress me with your goodness and optimism. God Bless you and yours... Toni

Update on Marty

Hi everybody,

I just got home from staying at the hospital all night, and thought you might like an update on Marty. He is doing better, and I thank the Lord for touching him, and you for your prayers! I just talked to his doctor on the phone and she said his white blood count was going down, and that was a good sign that the antibiotic was working, praise God!

They took a chest x-ray yesterday morning, and no serious complications showed up, like needing a chest tube, thank God.

Anyway she explained why they changed his antibiotic, the one he was on, Leviquin can cause seizures, and he has had two really bad ones since he has been there, and I noticed he got real agitated the two times after he got the Leviquin. So now he is on Clindamyacin and it seems to be working.

Last night he had one at midnight, and woke me up. It was awful, I rang the nurse and she came in and gave him a shot of Ativan, and it helped. Then they had to change his whole bed because he had soiled it, this can happen with seizures, and he hasn't been able to use the bathroom lately, although we have been getting him up and walking him.....

This morning they were taking blood when I left, and said they would give him a shot of Cortisol and then check it again, and do this three times an hour apart, and the doctor just now explained to me why. She said they are checking some of his hormone levels because he has very low blood pressure, he always has had low blood pressure, but nobody has ever checked that something could be wrong! So she is checking for low cortisone I think she said, made in the adrenal glands. His blood pressure was only 85/60 last night, too low they said.

I was thinking what if it is low and he can take medication for it, then maybe this is WHY he is having the seizures. Wouldn't that be a MIRACLE to be able to STOP them! God works all things together for good I know that, even if my emotions are totally shot at the moment, but guess it is to be expected, so little sleep, missing Christmas, and all.

Now I feel better after talking to her, and I thanked her for doing a good job. All three of these hospitalists are very thorough, are Indian or Pakistani or something, are just really good doctors, and I thank God for sending them in our time of trouble, His instruments...

Oh yes, as to Tom, he came over on Christmas to visit with me awhile, and it was really nice to see him. I just love him so much, my first born son, can't help it, I am a mother, haha. Anyway he wasn't drinking and was sweet as can be, said he was an idiot for slipping up. So I pray now that he gets back to his program, and I know all of our prayers together are helping him a LOT!!

After he left here he went back to mom's, and his daughter and her fiancé came over, the one who is getting married on the 30th. He is coming back down on Thur. to go to the wedding rehearsal. So still lots to do, the doctor said Marty should be discharged tomorrow, if all goes well......

The kids are here and I need to make them get dressed, the baby needs a bath, that sort of thing, will go back and stay with Marty at about 3:00, oh and here is a funny story. My daughter Tara who gets off work at 1:00 each day, her mail truck broke down on the top of the highest and steepest hill in Eugene, and she had to call for a tow truck.

So she was a little late getting here so I could go, always something. Anyway she had time to unwrap the presents I got her, the kids did theirs yesterday morning, boy were they excited, sure some mixed up Christmas around here!

And I don't do too well adjusting, sigh.

Talk to you soon, and THANK YOU ALL again!

Much love,

Carolyn

Be VERY careful with Clindamycin. It's a powerful antibiotic. During

or after your son has finished the meds, he can get colitis, which

will can make him a sick, sick boy.

I've had antibiotic-related colitis twice, and it was not a happy

situation. I also had an allergic reaction to Levaquin, and got a

rash from stem to stern on my body.
