My son is on Biaxin as well - since August - he takes the liquid form (he's

goin on 32 months now). When he first started taking it - well, it was a

NIGHTMARE - BUT, when he had a breakthrough infection and had to have the Vantin

for it - well, he RE-THOUGHT how bad the Biaxin tasted I think ------ when

the Vantin was done, we started back up with the Biaxin and he hasn't had a

problem taking it ever since. He hasn't complained about the taste per se, but

his reaction every time he takes it speaks volumes - he shudders.

Krista,

Biaxin causes a horrible metalic taste the entire time you are on it. This is

normal. It does this via IV too. It's nasty!

Hope you feel better soon.

My son (only 2 years old) is on Prophalatic antibiotics (BIOXIN) too. He has

t-cell lymphopenia. He doesn't talk yet but it does not seem to bother him at

all. (He would inform me if it did - He finds a way!!) . However, I wonder if

you ask the doc for a liquid version if it would digest faster and not give the

awful taste. I should let you know, though, that the liquid version is bitter a

bit.

I am currently on 500mg Clarithromycin(generic for Biaxin)every 12

hours for a sinus infection and Bronchitis (I have asthma, but am not

diagnosed with a PID...although I sometimes wonder...)and have noticed

that every time I cough, the mucous actually tastes like the

antibiotic tablets. This is happening even hours after I take the

pills. Has anyone else noticed this with Biaxin or Clarithromycin?

Biaxin has been the prophylactic for Les since his diagnosis. Probably about

4-5 yrs now. He says that being on it so long he's grown use to it but that

it is a metalic taste and at times it can overpower the taste buds in his

mouth. He'll get hungry but not want to eat anything because he can taste

the med.

is pushing 2 years now so I don't feel so bad. We will be

persuing the IVIG once we get insurance again. I procrastinated too long

and lost the insurance but have an appointment for in the morning so we

shall see what happens.

takes the liquid form and doesn't complain about it but takes

it *like a man* and goes on about his business. He has always been real

good about taking his meds though and will swallow a pill without a

drink to wash it down with.
