He is very smart and his grades were not up to his potential. Last school year we started ADDeral and it was amazing to see his grades, handwriting, test scores. He came home at the end of the summer with a perfect report card, and like 98% on his national test. But then the OCD flaired up and we immediately took him off the ADDeral. I know that if he starts not doing well in school that is going to be a whole new stresser and fear. He is very hard on himself. My doctor gave us some concerta to try for school but at a very low dose. Question, has anyone had some success with treating the ADD along with the OCD? Also I am nervous because he is very tired on the Zoloft not able to focus at all. I hope he can make it through school. Everything I have read will say that you can have both OCD and ADD but nothing I have read tells the solution. Thanks for any advice, DP We are treating our child for ADHD and OCD with Prozac and Adderall, and the combination seems to be pretty effective. It took us a while to find this combination; you probably need to work with your doctor to keep trying the right meds until you discover what's right for your child. Guest guest
My son does not have an OCD diagnosis, but he has Tourette's with some " OCDish " qualities. He also has ADHD. In the past he has taken Ritalin and Adderall, currently takes Concerta for the ADHD, along with Abilify with an evening booster of Clonidine for the TS. Would a combo of this nature possibly be helpful for your son? P. Jaxx Brown <hippygal@...> wrote: Hi my son is on Ritalin and Prozac but add Tourette's and it is more complicated. We go back on Thursday because his tics are really bad - we do not want to go of the Ritalin as it works so well for him but we need to do something for the tics. The Prozac is still quite low and seems to be working a fraction so may do another increase there. I don't know I am so confused . Guest guest
I know we go back this Thursday we will have med changes - as the psyc. doctor wanted to ask a couple of colleagues what they felt too - which was nice as he didn't want to jump in and just change meds. I think we will be adding Clonidine for the tics but then again am not sure. I also know they suggested changing the Ritalin for something else - but I am just so worried as Ritalin has been our life saver. Guest guest
I totally understand how scary it is to contemplate changing from something that has worked. Just keep in mind that you can always change back to the Ritalin if the change isn't effective. Of course, it might not be a good idea to change and add at the same time. Should you see any side effects, I'm sure you'll want to know what is causing them. And you can't really tell if you make multiple changes. P.
