I am SO sorry. When we lived in TX we had Cigna. We were always having

problems with them! We're now on our second insurance company since

leaving TX and I have to say that we have NEVER had the same number of

problems/headaches as we did when we had Cigna! OY VEY! Every year our

premiums went up with them and we got less coverage. Sigh...

Arrrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!!!!! tested positive for the flu.

She had this little barky cough Wed night, no biggie. Awoke Thurs. 7am with

101 fever (it's hardly ever good to awake with high fever, not that that's

super high), verrrrrry verrrrry sore throat (but throat looked

unremarkable),

bothersome cough now sounding somewhat wetter, dizzy.

Fever was going up a degree an hour, gave tylenol. Headache started, then

body aches. At noon, she was 104, blinding headache, couldn't take any

light,

eyes burning. In hindsight, textbook flu. Hot, dry, flushed skin, very pink

lips

and cheeks.

Advil worked much better, except didn't fix the headache. Went to doc and

got

nasal swab -- testing positive for Influenza A or B (doesn't say which).

Started her on treatment dose of Tamiflu, rest of the family put on

prophylaxis

Tamiflu.

I'll post separately about a prescription discount in our state because I'm

hearing many many insurances (maybe all?) are not covering Tamiflu. I'm

guessing it is because if there was a bird flu pandemic, they wouldn't want

to pay

for every man, woman and child to go on Tamiflu??? Anyway, doc warned us she

was

hearing it wasn't being covered.

It wasn't. We have Cigna. The med is like $10 per pill!!! 's liquid

treatment dose was $90!!!!!! Fortunately, I had the hindsight (I am SO proud

of

myself for thinking ahead on this) to sign up for this free prescription

discount card offered by our county. It may even be statewide (Illinois). It

gives

you a discount if insurance doesn't cover your med. I knew we might need it

because our prescr. benefit has gotten worse and worse, so many things

" non-formulary " , etc. So 's med was " only " $70. Kate's was $44 and

Jeff's and mine

were $50. Something like that. So it was $209 for the whole family!!!!

aaaaahhhhhhhgggg!! But it would have been $57 MORE without the discount

card. Whew.

Doc said fevers can go 7 days. I read you shed virus 2-5 days. Ped saw fluid

behind both eardrums but not infected, I'm guessing it will be infected by

the

time we're done here! Plus there's the concern about secondary pneumonia.

Sigh. I spoke too soon about what a great year it's been! It has still been

a

great year, but I did NOT expect flu this late! Blech.

polysaccharide antibody def, previously had transient IgG, IgA, t-cell &

other

defs... and also to Kate, age 3!, more dairy intolerant but very healthy!)

The worst flu I've ever had was in May. And I almost never get the flu!!

Did you guys get flu shots?? I've heard of several people saying they came

down with the flu but did get flu shots, so I'm just curious.

Meanwhile, I hope gets better quickly. I would say I hope you get

some sleep, but I doubt that's happening.

Thank goodness for Tamiflu!!

I know several SDS kids who have tested positive for the flu and they had

their flu shots--- also several of my nurse friends got the flu & they all

had their flu shots. I'm hoping we avoid it this year.we've had many

years of getting the flu with flu shots. Last Feb S & J got the flu after

having their flu shot last year..and who was not able to get the

shot b/c of the " shortage " caught it from them and ended up with pneumonia.

I'd hate to know how much it would have been for S & J had they not had their

shots if had it so bad-he is healthy and rare sick--

The girls and I all got flu shots, DH of course did not, since I didn't

actually drive him there and roll up his sleeve for him.

I was feeling bad because we usually give TWO flu shots, like they do

for infants, thinking it might help her to respond better (ped's original

idea). This year she was doing so well I only got her the one. When I mentioned

that to the other ped, she said most of the cases she's seeing are kids that had

a flu shot.

The good news is, in their practice of 10,000 children they have only seen 15

confirmed cases of flu.

I am actually getting plenty of sleep, believe it or not! They just don't

seem to need me in the night, thankfully. I went in the first night to stick

some

Tylenol in 's mouth, but probably could have skipped it. Ya know, when

the fevers are that high and the med isn't lasting, it works so much better to

medicate continuously rather than let the fever spike and try to get it down

to no avail.

I haven't had the flu in probably 18 years, though there have been a couple

illnesses in the last two years that felt like it but only lasted a day or two.

That one back then was a DILLY though, I don't wish to repeat it!

Hey Pattie:

When we first got Cigna we were happy -- they are all paperless and what a

refreshing change from Blue Cross where I had MOUNTAINS of paperwork...

But every year the coverage goes down and the co-pays go up... and they are

starting to make mistakes now that they never did before, where things get put

through wrong and then I have to straighten it out. I had that all the time

with Blue Cross, was forever on the phone, but with Cigna it's not as bad.

Though it's starting!

You appreciating my humor makes MY day better! I'm starting to wonder if

Tamiflu turns you into a complete witch (and for DH, whatever the male version

is), because I am SO crabby. It does give you insomnia, which doesn't help

matters. Plus I'm cooped up, the kids are cooped up and crabby, etc.

is SLEEPING right now -- it's 3:30pm... yeah, you think she'd be able

to handle the school day tomorrow? Doubt it. Sigh.
