Guest guest
Dear Gail, It is a heat issue, not an ozone issue. If you heat the body, you cause vasodilation, which brings blood from the core to the surface. If there is a clot that is hanging on the sides of an artery or vein, that clot may break free, go to the heart and cause an infarct, or to the brain and cause stroke. Therefore, anything which causes heat to enter the body may cause this problem. That would include saunas, hot tubs, showers, baths, sunbathing, vigorous sex, etc. This is the main danger from any heating device, and this is fairly well-known. I have never seen a warning on a bath tub but I have seen a few on saunas. If a person has already had a stroke, or a heart attack, then the chances are increased that they might have another one, if they are not doing anything to change their susceptibility (doing ozone daily or taking cayenne pepper daily come to mind). So, it is very important to know beforehand if a person is in this condition. If you ask directly, then you run the risk of being pilloried by the authorities for acting as a doctor. However, if you tell them that heat is contraindicated for people with previous stroke or heart attack, then they can act with self- responsibility and make an informed decision on whether or not they are prepared to take this small risk. Another issue is pregnant women. In Finland, it is common for pregnant women to take hot saunas. In the US, it is considered dangerous to the fetus for core temperature to be raised above 102 degrees. So, to be safe, we don't allow pregnant women to take saunas. The third area is high blood pressure. If a person has elevated blood pressure, it is often due to the lack of Omega 3 essential fatty acids, which can be consumed from flax oil, or deep sea fish sources. When the kidneys do not get sufficient amounts of Omega 3 EFAs, they overproduce renin. The renin stimulates the adrenal glands to produce angiotensin, which is one of the body's mechanisms for causing vasoconstriction, and thus blood pressure increase. It is like pinching a water hose to increase the output pressure. Once the kidneys get their Omega 3s, they reduce renin production, the adrenals reduce angiotensisn production, the blood vessels relax, and blood pressure drops. If this is not a part of diet, or if diet is insufficient to cause the desired reduction in blood pressure, the ozone sauna will accomplish the same effect. Due to the heat, a different approach is necessary. The person enters an unheated sauna, and the ozone is started. The heat is started up, but held to a low level (say 102 F). After 15 minutes, everything is shut off, and the person exits, showers, and leaves. The next 10 times, the same procedure is followed. After that, the time is increased to 20 minutes. Then in the next series, the temperature is increased slightly each time, allowing the body to adjust to the heat stress. This is the ramp-up technique. It is a conditioning process, like training for a marathon. Best of health! I am sure your book is a very good and informative book. What got me to start thinking along this line were two things. 1) Saul's comments about those that should not get in the sauna and some that were borderline. 2) My own experience with overdoing ear insufflation and the effect it had on me, which was all my fault for not knowing and following proper directions. But the combined two things got me to thinking. I had previously thought this was simply very safe (and I still do for the most part). But if there is any chance of it being harmful, I think it only simple courtesy to give a warning when purchasing the equipment. And I'd like to think it's more than just being courteous. It's about being in the business of caring about a persons' well-being and not wanting to see any harm come to them from using the equipment. To me that is what alternative therapy is all about. People who have found other ways aren't working and, with a true desire of getting well and helping others, have gone the alternative way. I did not purchase a sauna from Saul, and I have no idea what his instructions, and/or any warnings, are with his sauna. But the one I got form Ozonelab came with no heatlh warning whatsoever. It did caution about water damage, but nothing about possibility of any health hasard. I just think, if there are any risks, a simple warning with instructions is not too much to ask. And I don't think it should be necessary to have to buy a book to get that warning. Even a simple warning of checking with you doctor if you have any heatlh issues before starting might be appropriate. Guest guest
Hi Gail, You are right, this info should be available when purchasing a sauna. And when you purchase Saul's sauna, you get that information. I think it is irresponsible of people to sell this equipment without the most simplest of safety precautions. I understand what you are saying about the hottub at the pool, ours too has that warning about who should be in and not. That is what Saul is suggesting. You tell people the sauna is contraindicated for people with the following conditions....and list them off. Same thing. The pool did not ask every individual before they went into the pool about specific health conditions. Instead they made a blanket statement saying who it wasn't safe to be using this equipment. In the event that you chose to with one of those conditions and something happened, they would be technically off the hook now. Perhaps you should suggest to Den that he might want to include some safety information when selling his equipment as we do. This is very valuable information to me as most of my entire in-laws have had either heart, stroke and or diabetes. NONE are into taking care of themself and so I don't have a whole lot of hope for any of them. Still I would like to offer help in a safe way such at limb bagging for those with neuropathy. When I was pregnant with my third child, I took my two older children and myself swimming at the local pool. They had a whirlpool/hottub. On the wall in big, bold writing were the rules for the pool facilities. Children under the age of 18 were not allowed to use the hottub and pregnant women were also not allow as there were reports of it damaging the fetus. If my memory serves me right, it seems like it mentioned a possibility of causing brain damage to the baby. I will always be grateful for that warning and I never once felt like they were trying to act like a doctor. I think something that simple on the sauna equipment would go a long way. Something as simple as people with a heart/stoke condition or HBP should check with their doctor before using. I would not consider that playing doctor and would have appreciated it a lot. Guest guest
Ah, well I feel better about that too then. You aren't the only one who doesn't read all their instructions believe me. I am trying to talk Saul into including a big print note saying " Read all instructions first! " Of course that will only work for people who read them LOL.... After thinking the sauna tent did not come with any warnings, I got out the paper work that came with it. I must say I did not read it thoroughly. It does come with a warning for pregnant, elderly, child or any prone to heart disease or high blood pressure or have a fever, to consult your physician before using the steam sauna. This warning is kind of in the back of the paper work and the assembly instructions are in the front. After I put it together and figured out how it all worked, I didn't read the rest.
