Hi I just had to chime in on this one. Someone wrote she always wonders

whether her child's apraxia was caused by a fast birth. I too wonder this

all the time. I had all 3 children with out epiderals ( I wanted one for

2nd and especially my youngest one, who is the one with apraxia) Without the

horrible details, I was on pitocin, very stressed out, ( my water broke 10

minutes after my husband boarded a plane for a business trip across the

country) and I was in so much pain that when it was time, I pushed so hard

and the baby came fast. My son had a broken blood vessel in his eye. So

therefore I always thought I popped something. There you go for mother's

guilt.

Mine came out fast too but I always wondered if it was all the stress I felt

during my pregnancy. My hormones were raging.

Hello to all who are part of this thread.

While I know we all wonder about what we, or our doctors did wrong

during the pregnancy, or during childbirth, many medical

professionals that I've spoken to say its really impossible to

determine what caused apraxia and when.

Some neurologists that we've been working with indicate that a mild

form of static enthephelapothy, while in utiro may have caused it.

This would not be something we would notice or feel, but it would

deter or halt ongoing development. From that point on they believe

development continues - which could be an explanation for gross motor

delays and other developmental delays.

Just to add to the discussion. My two kids were difficult

deliveries. The pregnancy phase was fine - I felt good, but the

delivery with my son took 22 hours of labor, after my water broke -

and then of course a C-Section. With my daughter who has apraxia -

the labor lasted 30 hours and then I had a C-Section.

As you can see my kids just did not want to come out.

Hello again,

I have to apologize, but I spelled it wrong, which is probably the

reason you can't find more info on it. It is called Static

Encephalopathy. It is a general term (very general) used to describe

a general dysfunction in the brain that will not change, progress or

get worse over time. - That is probably the reason we all see our

kids improving, through supplementation, therapy and hard work.

Remember this is just another theory proposed by the medical

community, and suggested to me by various experts (neurologists).

Medical expert say about Static Encephalopathy:

" Permanent or unchanging brain damage. The effects on development

depend on the part of the brain involved and on the severity of the

damage. Developmental problems may include any of a range of

disabilities such as cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, mental

retardation, autism, PDD, speech delays, attention deficits, hearing

& vision impairments, oral motor problems, etc. "

Also please remember that it ranges from mild to severe, where mild

may not indicate any abnormalities seen or expressed by the child.

I hope this helps.
