I just thought I post a quick note. I have a son 4 years with cvid among other

issues. We now see Dr. Geha who has decided to test me given my past illnesses.

Some of my labs came back and I was hoping someone may be able to give insight

IGG 758 which is good, IGA 69 normal is 70-312 they like to see it in the

middle,IGM 22 normal 42-240 and a response to vaccines ? 9 of 14 I don't

understand what that means had 3 of 8 and has low IGG, IGA, IGM and 4

sub classes too. any wisdom? Dawn mother to

Dale, just saw your post to Dawn, re: CVID...does this run true for kids,

when their IGG is below normal and one subclass is low, with poor response to

vaccine??? We don't have a firm diagnosis yet for , but due to the

declining iGG level, poor response to vaccine and infection rate/mouth sores,

we are going to start subq IG...in the next couple of weeks.

Just wondering...Sure appreciate your experience.

from Dale, , I'm not sure of your question? I beleieve the

definition of CVID that is most often used is low IgG with at least one

other Ig being low -- either A or M. But I may be wrong. I'm feeling a

little rusty these days.

If you are asking if the IgM is a precursor to IgA and IgG in kids --

then yes -- it's the same set-up.

Now be aware that CVID or Common Variable is the exact same thing as

Hypogammaglobulanemia -- just an easier name to hang on. I've noticed a

lot of doctors prefer one over the other -- but it's the same animal as

far as I know.

Low IgG's or unworking IgG's are what cause the vaccination response to

be low. Without the proper IgG's the body can't build an antibody

response to germs -- whether they are introduced by vaccination or by

encounter in the real world. It's just easier to test something after

vaccination -- because you KNOW they have been exposed and should have

built a response. So -- when there is a low vaccination response -

there will be the same response to that type of germ in everyday life.

If I've muddied the question -- please try me again!

I'm really glad you are starting IVIG for -- I really think that

may help with the mouth sores and all. I certainly hope so. No child

should have to suffer like has. Here's a funny wish for you -- I

will pray that will drive you crazy for the right reasons in the

next few months! What we've found when these kids get healthy is that

the parents discover mischieveousness and personality that they've never

seen before. I remember being so glad when Katy was able to " fight " me

again. She was so passive while she was sick. But she made up for it

when she got better!!!!! May God bless you with a fiesty handful!

In His service,

Dale
