Guest guest
Dear Dr. Geller, I have a question about Luvox. My 14-year-old son has had anxiety and mild OCD for a long time. This Spring, his anxiety got bad enough so that he stopped doing his homework at school, and his psychiatrist added Luvox to the Seroquel my son was already taking. He started him at a low dose (12.5 mg) and we've gradually increased it to 100 mg. The Luvox has actually been activating to my son, so the doctor also increased his Seroquel at night to 125 mg and 25 mg in the morning. The problem is that my son's OCD seemed to get much worse for a time as we gradually increased the Luvox, then got better as we reached the 100 mg, although it's still much worse than it was before we started the Luvox. My question is, could the Luvox actually be triggering the OCD or making it worse? I'm afraid to increase the Luvox yet again, as my son's doctor is recommending, and the doctor is of the opinion that if the Luvox doesn't work, we shouldn't try my son on another SSRI (we tried him on Paxil when he was about 8 years old, and that was not good--very activating--and Celexa a couple of years ago, and that made him nauseous). It's a tricky situation. Thanks in advance, Meckman37
