Milk Protein Allergy

This may be coming across for a second time-but I never saw it go through the

first time-and it has some what we found to be important info regarding milk

allergies-and since that has been a popular thread lately-I wanted to share what

we have learned.

Another area to watch-that I had not included-are skin lotions and many

shampoos, soaps and bath products. Maddie got the nastiest yeast infection from

the film in the tub left by a prduct her sister had used-and the lotion run off

from her dad!

My Maddie is also very allergic to milk protein-although it did not show up in

scratch testing-but with a RAST test-and her levels were higher than the doctor

had ever seen. Since we have eliminated all milk protein-and the list of

ingredients is long and we have found it to be in many things we use-her health

has improved greatly-we have just had one sinus thing this year and it cleared

up with regular old Augmentin-and her asthma is better than it has been in

years-we were also able to lower her gerd med dose.

One thing our doctor looked at also for milk protein-were all of her meds. She

had been off of advair-but when she was on it she was soooo sick-and lo and

behold-it contains lactose! Another pill she had been taking for a very long

time was believed to have it in there also! We have found now that even lotion

or bath things that contain milk cause her to have a reaction.

The worst part of all this is we just found this this past fall-and we had been

to an allergist-whom I asked about RAST testing and was told it was not

necessary. I just want to yell at him so badly-because her quality of life has

been sooo much better since we started this way of life!

Becky in IN-mom to Maddie. IgA def. low IgG, gerd, asthma, milk protein allergy,

nk cell defect....

Becky,

You are so right about all of the hidden places for milk. Our son has a severe

life threatening milk allergy and his many times will not show on skin tests

unless you use real milk to do the test and then it will. The allergist was

floored by that.

We had to force the pulmo and his hot shot pharmacist to call the makers of

Advair to get them to believe that it can be contaminated by milk protein in the

lactose. They called and I was right so no Advair for us. Prilosec also

contains lactose, but Prevacid does not so we are using that. Many of the

shampoos etc. in the new " natural " lines contain milk. Ugh!

Anyway, glad you found out that the milk was causing such problems and now they

are better. My son is allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, cashews and peas.

Mom to Grace 8 (THI, IgA def, Antigen proliferation defect, pneumococcal

antibody deficiency, mild asthma, chronic constipation)

Mom to Caelan 6 (IgG, IgM, IgA def, Antigen proliferation defect, pneumococcal

antibody def, asthma, Eosinophilic esophagitis, severe food allergy)

Mom to Ian 6/4/05 (GERD, otherwise incredibly healthy so far!)
