silly question, maybe??

Hi everyone! I have a question, and, again, I may be jumping the gun

here, as we still don't have Annie's results yet. She had her blood

drawn on Wednesday, and I am not so patiently waiting to see if she made

antibodies to the prevnar vaccine his time.

But my question: The kids pulmo is listed under " pediatric allergy and

immunology. " So, does that mean he an immunologist also?? There is no

pediatric immunology section alone, but there are pediatric infectious

disease doctors. I hate to sound stupid, but I just do not know. We

have been seeing this doctor for 11 years because of my oldest son's

asthma, and my other 2 have since been dx with asthma. He is a pulmo,

but I don't know about the immunologist part. My 14yo does have an

appt. with him Monday, so I have lots of questions anyway. I will just

have to add yet another, unless anyone thinks I shouldn't.

Any insight?? Thank you for your help and patience!

Meg,

It could be that your pulmo is the closest thing to an immuno in your area.

Where I live, the infectious disease doc is the main person at the state

children's hospital that does IVIG. He used to do our IVIG. We don't have a ped

immuno dept there at all. There is one ped allergist elsewhere that reportedly

sees patients for immuno issues.

We chose to take Calvin to another hospital out of state to get a " real "

immuno.....actually it is an excellent multi-doctor immuno practice in a

teaching/children's hospital. We tried a part-time moon-lighting allergy doc

first here at home and it did not work out.....he was unable to provide

satisfactory care.

I would imagine that in the yellow pages that docs could list a secondary

specialty, if no on is available in that area otherwise. The ID doc at the

children's hospital here does all the IVIG so he ends up acting as an immuno

too. I think he does specialize in AIDS research....which would lap over into

immune deficiency issues.

That's all

Thank you, ! I appreciate you answering this for me.

I do remember that , Conner's mom, said that they had been to

the Cleveland Clinic. My oldest sees an endocrinologist there, and

it's only about an hour away, so that's certainly feasible if that's

where we are headed .... I don't remember his name though, and do

not remember seeing any ped. immuno's on our ins. list online ....

There were some infectious deisease doctors at the Clinic on our

ins., though, so, so, so....

Thanks again!

Annie, 7 asthma, allergies, low pneumo titers is all we know for

now!
