HI. Kaitlyn who is 12 and has CVID, Asthma, Chronic Sinusitis, and Reflux is

and has been homeschooled since first grade. We have an older child who attends

public school and will graduate after all 12 years this May.

Homeschooling DOES not mean that your child is " alone " all the time. That can

happen, but if the parents make sure it does not, homeschooling can be a

wonderful thing for your child. Kaitlyn is involved in Girl Scouts, 4-H,

Church, piano lessons, she plays on a softball team, participates in community

theatre, attends plays and concerts AND is homeschooled as I mentioned above.

The SOCIALIZATION card is not one to use to NOT home school. You would be

chosing to homeschool because it would be better for the health of your child,

not to keep them isolated. You still can be involved in different activities,

you just still HAVE to be careful of the situations you put your CVID child in.

If there is a cold/virus/ flu or something going around, then you would not be

able to attend on that day. It is just like you would do with anything else.

You have to be aware of what is going on and going around. But to use

socialization as a reason to NOT do something that could very well benefit your

child is not right. Kaitlyn stays healthier because we home school and watch

the things she may be exposed to. I am by no means downing public or private

school, because remember I have a son who is fixing to be a public school

graduate, but for some students, home schooling is the best thing for them. In

our case it has been wonderful.

Hope this helps.

Hugs,

Xan, Mom to , 17 & Kaitlyn, 12 - CVID, Asthma, Chronic Sinusitis, & Reflux

I totally agree with ya on that one. I figured when I was homeschooling

my older three that between scouts church and organized PE, with other

homeschoolers, we were covering the socialization issue. With my son,

now, we are getting that covered between karate, church and his friends

around the neighborhood.
