Guest guest
I am sure that I have mentioned it before, but Molly who has AS was basically tortured all year in 8th grade, then she was both sexually assaulted and physically assaulted both of which necessitated police involvement. You can never be too careful. I was very straightforward with the school district, because my daughter went to the school officials several times regarding being harassed because she is white, the counselor was colored, and when she was assaulted, he told me that she was lying about it - my response was that if she had been a child of color, it would have been taken seriously immediately, it was actually charged as a hate crime, because my daughter was wearing her star of david pendant at the time. I have little trust in school administrators at the middle school and high school level, ther have been exceptions to this, and every time, I have written a letter of thanks and cc'd it to the principal and the district to encourage them. Most of the time I see tenured teachers who simply don't have the energy to care anymore - the laws and the districts insistance of teaching standards instead of teaching in their own unique way have tied the hands of those teachers who actually started teaching because they cared. I will keep you in my prayers. M Strahlendorf <pgnsht@...> wrote: Thanks......... I plan on it....... Guest guest
Thanks .... We got our lawyer today. We will be filing for due process. We are trying to get my son placed in a private school run by the Help Group called Village Glen. It is for kids K-12 with HFA/Aspergers. The lawyer says we have a case so we are going for it. I actually witnessed my son being attacked last year. He had been repeatedly beaten up before but because there were no witnesses they said he was lying..... Until I witnessed it afterschool one day. He was minding his own business walking to our car when a boy ran up behind him, grabbed him by the neck and threw him down on the ground. You can imagine how livid I was. So I put it in writing. Supposedly the boy was disciplined...... But this was only 5th grade....... It only gets worse. So I am fighting it tooth and nail to protect him. Thats why the kid in Orange County went on a shooting spree. He was treated like a piece of crap his whole life..... He snapped................................... Not my son......... I'm nipping it in the bud now..... Wish me luck. in Lancaster, CaJen <diegowench@...> wrote: I am sure that I have mentioned it before, but Molly who has AS was basically tortured all year in 8th grade, then she was both sexually assaulted and physically assaulted both of which necessitated police involvement. Guest guest
You go girl!!! I am making calls tomorrow - because I filled out Miss Mollys high school paperwork, and saw a clause in there that cell phones are illegal at schools - I will INSIST that she have it written in her IEP that she can have hers. The boy who sexually assaulted her has been everywhere she has been lately, - he rode his bike past all three of my girls and even my 9yo who is severely adhd and generally notices nothing unless it is shiny or furry lol - noticed it and was scared to death. As much as I hate to say it, I have started talking to her about defending herself. I always told my son if someone else starts it - you finish it. Unfortunately, I was a tiny thing growing up and the same things happened to me, until I finally was fed up and got in a fist fight with the biggest girl in school - strangely enough no one ever threatened me physically. I am signing all three of my girls up in martial arts classes next week - I am tired of my kids being harassed, and tortured by other kids (none of my kids are NT)I will be rooting you on in spirit, these situations have to be FOUGHT and fought hard - I am sick and tired, and so many parents are sick and tired of being frightened for our children's safety. We live in San Diego County, read expensive as hell, and even with both my husband and I working full time, plus me taking in graphic and web design projects on the side, we BARELY make it. I stayed home with the kids when they were small, which was rough, but then I did it again up until 2 years ago, and as a result, we went from having a credit score in the high 800s to having to sell our home, and rent, and having REALLY bad credit. It is awful absolutely awful.M Strahlendorf <pgnsht@...> wrote: Thanks .... We got our lawyer today. We will be filing for due process. Guest guest
Jen, Isnt it shameful how they make us fight for our kids???? My sons doctor signed a letter agreeing that for his own safety and mental well being he should not be in a typical middle school. We will see what their response will be..... Actually they can take their response straight to my lawyer. Time to fight fire with fire....... in Lancaster, CaJen <diegowench@...> wrote: You go girl!!! Guest guest
YES< it is a shame and disgrace that in this day and time that the school officials are not EDUCATED on aspergers, being their are 1 in 166 kids with aspergers they better get educated and soon. FIGHT them for yourself and all the kids that will be coming in the future! GOOD LUCK and keep us up to date.. Guest guest
I talked to the school, and they said - "no problem" with the phone thing, I am finding that the high school is WAY more accomodating than the elementary and jr high schools. In addition to this, they will provide an aide for Molly for the first month to help her get acclimatized (sp?) along with making sure she knows where everything is - (she once got "lost" inside a closet - seriously) - and they are willing to continue the aide if she should need it. For all of the parents of elementary school and younger spectrum children, this is the result of over 10 years of not backing down with the school district... Don't ever "settle" for what they tell you is all that they can do...... EVER! kbtoni@... wrote: YES< it is a shame and disgrace that in this day and timethat the school officials are not EDUCATED on aspergers, being their are 1 in 166 kids with aspergers they better geteducated and soon. My son is Aspergers and ADHD and this is his senior year of high school, which started August 14. I have been to at least two or one depending, maybe more, meetings and or IEP meetings a year since he was enrolled in preschool in this district. So, we have come a long way. Anyway, I hear that college experiences are better too, for our kids, as the students are more on their level and interested in school, for the most part, at the better colleges and Univ, as are the professors. in IL PS CAN PEOPLE on this list please delete all of the pasting of the previous email you are responding to and just include one or two lines. This happens when people answer an email on the web site. PLEASE. This would be helpful. I get the digest and have pages and lines to delete that some of you are including that are from former emails you are responding to, does this make sense? Thanks much.
