Guest guest
> > Hi everybody. Hi : > How concerned should we be about Pertussis? VERY!!! especially in the Middle School age & High School. Even if you have to call the Dr. to find out where else it could possible bee. The Middle Sdhools here in our town seem to have the most cases. The hich schools are reporting several really bad ones. Blake, Home health Nurse told us that with Blake to always be on the look out. She said that it would really be worse on us as adults because of the " booster " & the fact that we do not get boosters even as we are told to do so because we think that as adults, we are immune to anything. Here in Greenwood, SC they have this " attack: once a yr. But this yr. it is really bad. Blake's teacher has had to cancel coming to uor home to teach Blake his lessons(Complete Homebound) because of how awful Pertussis is there. One of his teacher's(the one that gives the lessons to the homeboud teacher) had 2 of her children have it. they say it is hard onthe health children. So, you know it will be even harder on our bablies!!! > The school nurse called me today, a child in 's class is the SIBLING of > a suspected case of Pertussis. We did not even get the call from the School Norse. The News Paper let us know as they told the whole town about having 30 confirmed & rising 3 weeks ago. But gratefully, by not wanting to have Blake over wexposed to anything, she called & told us about it. We did later find out that Blake was exposed through his Homebound teacher. Since Blake was already on IV rocephin & IV Cipro, for the third time in as many months for Pneumonia & severe pansinusitis infection(we were told this was the worse one they have seen in his sinuses in 4 yrs. that is when he had 4 sinus surgeries to relieve the sinus issues). he would be protected. & since it is os bad here, they pan on keeping him on the Rocephin for 2 months. We will finish week 3 Thursday........ > So, thanks for any info. I don't want to be a ninny about it,..... There really is NO over protection with children who have immune disorders, no matter whatwhich one htey have or are suspected of having!!! Better to be " safe than sorry " approach is ALWAYS best for these little ones!!!! > I was very pleased the nurse notified me so early................I am glad that your nurse was quick to alert you. At Blake's school, there are 21 confirmed cases. They way we dound out was through the news paper telline the public about the pPertussis in the schools & where they were located. Then later in the day his Pediatircian called us to confirm that " it " was in Blake's school(Middle) & thet Blake was by NO means to even step foot in the school!!! Hope this helps some, , Mom to Blake 13.............My Adventure of a Lifetime & Boy is he ever an Adventure right now!!!!!! http://www3.caringbridge.org/sc/blakester
