I am pasting a 1943 study on re-mineralization of dental enamel but first a little background:My little Jack chipped her back upper tooth on a bone. Her other molar back upper other side of mouth had a caries in it already when she was much younger:-(( The chipped tooth lead to an abscess 2 weeks ago. I have dealt with the abscess with antibiotics and homeopathy (Silicea) and now I am trying to save the chipped tooth which the vets want to pull under general anesthesia) and also the caried tooth. I am going to give her Calc Fluor and Calc Phos. Everyone is telling me you cannot re-mineralize, even the homeopaths and just go ahead and extract both teeth! Because I

have seen wonderful results with kids on this list due to Vit K, D etc I am plodding forward.....The most encouraging thing

I found is quite a co-incidence, a study written up by a close family friend who during his student days during WW2 wondered about the process of dental re-mineralization. This eventually lead to an experiment (see link below) I am pasting the background to the study (see pasted paragraph below) and the actual results written up in an Italian scientific journal....Apparently, the saliva delivers the calcium and phosphate, at least that's what I understand from my smattering of Latin and Italian. I am looking for someone to translate the study into English (any offers, pretty please:-))So here comes the pasted part:<<Let's get back to my student days in Bologna. Even before I finished with my doctoral dissertation

(orlaurea, in Italian), I made the acquaintance of a dentist called Giorgio Maj. We met in the Borsa café, where I went to play chess. I once asked his opinion on the following problem: we may eat an acidy orange every day, or bite into a lemon, after which the enamel in our teeth gets eroded, but by next day it regenerates, all erosion disappears. How can this be? I asked whether blood circulation had any role in this. He answered that there is no physical connection between blood vessels and tooth enamel. Then, I said, regeneration must be based on something in saliva, otherwise our teeth would just wear out, since clearly we cannot avoid acid foodstuffs or other foods or drinks that erode tooth enamel. I suggested that we conduct an experiment. He was to prepare some human or animal tooth enamel, which we would then break in half. One piece we would immerse into acetic acid, and part of this piece we would then immerse into

saliva, or a solution similar to it, after which I would determine the amount of calcium or phosphate in the two pieces, thus establishing whether there was regeneration or not.Then we carried out the experiment. I found a suitable photometer for the determination of phosphates in Walter Ciusa's laboratory, and we were able to prove that eroded tooth enamel really is regenerated from saliva. and for you poor Birmingham and South Staffs folk... you have it added to your water... and have one of the highest incidences of osteoporosis. . thought to arise from Flouride depositing in bones and eating away at the calcium....

Thank god my kids are allergic to milk and only have filtered water and NO Fluoride in toothpaste at all... and have really healthy teeth too.

Many children are already getting too much. Children's fluoride toothpaste is lower dose than adults - if they use adult fluoride paste they can overdose. Very many young children have been shown to swallow much of their toothpaste so it's quite a problem when they are given adult toothpaste. Fluoride is in much of our water (and wine and beer and bottled water) and now it's in milk too.

you posting this reminded me of a thread i started a few years ago (actually it

was in 2006 would you believe...i've just looked!) where i was asking for help

becos ds had a hyperplastic tooth and i was after ideas for remineralising it.

It starts message no. 15166 if you want to have a look.

So i thought it would be good to do an update on this for folks. Well anyway the

tooth is fine now, ie it's remineralised, isn't that amazing!!!

The things i did that i think helped were:

Keeping his mineral levels up

Supplimenting extra molybenum (sp?)(at the time, not now)

extra calcium - ongoing

avoiding flouride toothpaste!!!

Supping with Vit K - ongoing

I believe all of these interventions may well have played a part in the

remineralisation, but the one i think was the most useful would have to be the

Vit K. At the time DS had a really unhealthy mouth, with yellowing teeth, but

now he has lovely strong white teeth and i'm sure K played a big part in making

that happen.
