Improvement in speech with a temperature

Hi I know this has been discussed before but my daughter and son in law have

noticed that Charlie's talking improves so much when he is ill.

He came home from school with a temperature on Friday. On Sunday at dinner he

clasped his hands together and pleaded with his dad " please take me to the

hospital - it may work " ! They did and it turned out that he had a bad ear

infection.

Were there any answers as to why there is an improvement and can it be sustained

?(without wanting him to be ill, of course)
