Guest guest
Hi all, I did post this question within my other post but thought that I would just post it as it's own question. I really need a high chair and was hoping that you would be able to let me know if there are any chairs that would offer better back support for a baby with infantile scoliosis? We are trying to get our girl started on solids (slow going as she isn't particularly interested at 7 months). I have been sitting her on my lap but it is starting to get messy and she is a bit scrunched up on my lap! I don't want to spend lots of money on one if it turns out to be the wrong choice. Thanks so very much for any suggestions, Elaine, Mum to Rosie.
Guest guest
Hey --Any highchair is going to be fine. Its the casting that she needs to give her support. Honestly, without a cast on, anytime she is sitting up is not a good thing, because of gravity. What we did with Logan, was feed him in the bouncy seat. The recline was enough to feed him upright but back enough to not put any more pressure on his already curved spine. We got rid of EVERYTHING that helped him sit or stand up. Highchair, excersaucer, walker, bouncy jumper, bumbo etc. The reclining bouncy seat was the only thing we kept. Once Logan was casted, we used a booster chair in a regular chair to feed him. hope this helps a little. =) -Logan's mama(45 down to 9 out of cast last september, 2 years old, 12th cast) From: <davelainer@...> infantile scoliosis treatment Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2012 4:13 PM Subject: High Chairs Hi all, I did post this question within my other post but thought that I would just post it as it's own question. Guest guest
we have found that upright was NOT good for our 24 month old ( even though he was sitting well before being casted) and it happens to be the highchair we had ( Graco which folds up) reclines so you can find a good angle. I dont know if a bouncer is so comfortable for eating. we did find that after a while when Binyamin's neck and overall musculature strength improved, he was able to sit in a portable booster seat with a tray. Look at how your child seats normally and where the cast does or does not cut into them at different angles. try and gauge where they are most comfortable and then compare that when you look at chairs/seats/etc. you do not need something custom or expensive, just have to find the right fit. are you in NY by anychance? good luck Zehava mom to Binyamin casted at 23 months for 59 degree curve.... in second cast and hoping for change
Guest guest
We are looking for a booster seat for Brayden to transition too from his high chair. What is the brand and style of the one you use that works well with the Mehta cast? Any suggestions are helpful please. Guest guest
Honestly we use a hand me down...nothing fancy & it works loads better then his high chair I think...actually we just never used the high chair after his cast & went straight to that booster. I don't think you really have to worry about anything special but I think it works better if you don't try to use the tray part & just push it up to the table instead. If the tray doesn't have enough room for your little one to sit behind would be the only problem I can think of. Guest guest
Eryn,We have loved the chair we transitioned our son to. It's a Keekaroo high chair. Both the seat and foot rest are completely adjustable so we could fit it exactly for his size. We have it pushed up to our table instead of using the tray which is fairly small. He enjoys being at the table with the rest of the family. They're fairly expensive but we found a used one on Craigslist - yay Craigslist! It works well with a cast. He's 4 now, and has been using it for almost two years.-Patrice Sent from my iPadOn Jul 8, 2012, at 8:36 AM, "erdennis1" <erdennis1@...> wrote: We are looking for a booster seat for Brayden to transition too from his high chair.
